I get olive from one of my Easter Eggers, as a result of breeding in Barred Rock a few generations ago. Brown coating genetics are very complicated, and there are at least nine known genes that affect the shade of brown/green. Some are recessive, some are dominant. An individual bird can have several different ones. Which is why I never guarantee egg color for my Easter Egger chicks. There are just too many variables to account for. Still a few years away from having a consistent egg color.I thought you needed a dark brown breed like Welsummer or Marans to get the olive egger. I know Welsummer works because I crossed my rooster Welsummer with ee hen and got speckled olive eggs and I like those.
