Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I know Ogress was using the Rat Zapper that she ordered from Amazon, but has anyone tried the version that Home Depot sells? DH and I went earlier today but couldn't find any snap traps for rats, so I just picked up a couple of sticky traps, but that's not going to do it for me. I'm going to hit up Lowe's later and see what I can find.

I was just out in the garage getting BOSS to sprinkle on the eggs that I had cooked up for the girls when I am pretty darn sure I heard something scrambling in a cardboard box just inches away from me. I froze and could still hear a rustling noise. I turned back to go in the house to get my dog for "protection" because of course DH had left for Emerald Downs for the day and after donning my gloves I started emptying the box. Whatever had been in there, if there truly was something there was gone. I emptied that box and tossed it into the recycling outside.

Made my blood freeze for a few seconds though I'm telling you. I need to see some dead rats soon. I'm feeling some rage.
We spent $75 on a rat zapper last year and so far, we have caught 5 slugs.
We DO catch rats in the Victor's rat traps, and use slices of garlic bread, walnuts & mozerella cheese work best...so far this year.
Last year we caught more rats with slices of Mars Bars....................

My girls were very pleased to be out for 3.5 hours while I was cleaning their house. Mom was doing some yard maintenance and was watching them. We found Marmalade sitting in a bush next to the porch preening. She likes it here. She was trying to menace our old poodle-pomeranian for a bit. It didn't even notice!
Check Marmalade for mites ?
This time of year is MITE CITY !!!!

CL, what breed is that chicken in your avatar? I really like the colors.
That is a Crele Chantecler...and there is no such thing.

What you like, the colors, are called "Crele"

So, what you like is not the bird, but the color.
And you can have such color in quite a few breeds.
This above is a Crele Orpington.
It is basically a Partridge bred to a barred (or cuckoo) bird.
Although it takes a few generations to get the breed to breed "true" and be crele with every hatch...that is what it is...CRELE.
Here is a Crele and a Partridge (with no barring) so ya cand see the difference:

Crele

Partridge/// same as Crele but no barring is on the feathers.

I'm workking on it~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I gutted & refurbished a huge coop today...old shavings out, new cedar shavings in.....and new dust bath tub, DE & sand mixed, and right away I had 3 hens in the dust bath tub at a time !!!

YES it is mite time.
Mites LOVE this time of year, so be alert to any birds with dirty cushions (the POOF right under the vent)
Mites lay eggs in the cushion down, and it will appear as muddy dirty......
Keep your eyes open for mites this time of year...another dead giveaway is birds freaking out "preening" and preening, and preening and preening.....

Night all !!!

Honestly, I have never in my life seen a more gorgeous colorful rooster. The first guy is stunning! The second guy is beautiful! You must be very proud of them. They are breathtaking.
