Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

It's only been very light on rain here. Not enough to even make my chickens blink. Well silkies don't come out of the rain anyway.

My cats aren't even phased by light rain. Guess you can tell they came from barn cats bred in the rain here.
I like "silkies don't come out of the rain anyway." Mine either!!! And she sometimes looks like a drowned rat. Well, she's not really mine. I've been keeping her for a friend until my friend was able to reinforce her coop because she lost most of her flock to raccoons. It's done now and sweet little snowball is going to her real home today. I'm both happy and sad. Such a sweet chicken.

Does anyone have tips/advice on fattening up a cockerel without making him sick or killing him?? I brought Sergeant inside as I noticed he was thin and I think the hens & ducks aren't allowing him much food as I watched them run him off from the feed I threw out. I tried to give him a separate pile of feed but our ducks scared him off.

On a happier note, a feral cat that I've been leaving food out for has revealed that it's a female and not a male like I thought it was. My mom pointed out that it was pregnant. Unfortunately, almost all the shelters including the one I volunteer for are too full to take in any more cats/kittens. I've decided to continue feeding mama kitty and later on will feed her kittens. Luckily, it hasn't tried to get into our chicken yard which is why I'm going to continue feeding her.

My birds never need to fight for food there are feeders always in different areas
in nice weather I can set them outside and in .. They are made of 3 inch sewer pvc,
some stand straight others like this but have like 6 in one coop 3 in another and 3 in silkie 4th is in their tractor

My large fowl flock rooster is always a bit skinny, even for being half silkie. He gives all the treats away and keeps guard when the hens are foraging. I think he only eats at the feeder right before bed and maybe in the morning. I've witnessed at night.

I'd have to seperate him totally from seeing any hens to get him fatter. I don't get him. My silkie boys give away plenty of treats but also eat some themselves and eat throughout the day. My ameraucana roosters did as well. I guess some boys are just like that.

Aside from trying to keep our cockerel from staying thin, we now have another problem. Mouse, our bantam cochin/silkie mix, has gone broody for the second time this year. Looks like I'm going to have to sneakily buy hatching eggs or chicks for her without my parents knowing. I'm thinking of just going with eggs so that when they hatch, I can pretend that the cockerel finally did his job and bred the hens.

The feral cat that I've been feeding looks to be getting close to having her kittens. I can't wait to see what they'll look like.

Make sure she does not go off and hide them I have few here in small bator marans if you need them fast
Every time she's gone broody, she's never done that. Plus, I usually move her to our brooder to continue sitting on eggs.
It amazes me that despite being 3-4 years old, she's still our best broody and mother hen. I only trust her to raise chicks.
