Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I feed and water inside the coops to not have wild birds to standing water on the propety either .. had the car serviced this morning told them put new tires on the front .. So we get the car back .. Guess what they did :he

The large fowl hen I'd planned on using to raise the chicks was violently offended by them. She's back out in her pen.

I grabbed a random broody from the silkie pens because I needed someone. She settled down after about 10 minutes and I showed a chick to her after 40 minutes. She was curious and not violent. So I put it down and she let it crawl under. Gave her the others that are hatched. Gave her some shredded cheese for being a good girl. She tried to get them to come out but they were happy under.

We went to town and came back. Chicks are now out and she's fully talking to them. She was a laid back pullet to begin with.

Chick number 7 just hatched. About 20 hours from start to finish on the hatch. Several were from the wheaten ameraucana hens. Those girls are about seven years old. The darker chick is from the 10 year old lady. I watched that one hatch. Another one in there is hers as well.

I need to do that with the old girls not sure they are laying now anymore .. Sounds like your hit the jackpot

I knew I needed to hatch them when I got eggs from the old lady. I'm hoping to breed some longevity into my laying flock. They really don't eat much as I do let them free range some.

I decided to just make my own little strain of backyard layers that do well for me. Only issue is the current cross lay small to medium eggs for their first year then medium to large for their second. Not that hubby cares on egg size and I measure volume if I'm not using large eggs.

Anyone know where I could get salmon favorelles either hatching eggs or chicks? I feel like I've tried every online hatchery I can think of, and no one has any availability before late summer. In an ideal world, I would be able to have a small order of favorelles and bielefelders shipped to me next week :) In the real world I can't seem to have either this spring.
