Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Those are just gorgeous! As always, my issues are that I'm on the "wrong" side of the state. It happens with everything, including my kids' school trips (obviously no field trips in the last year +). Most of their teachers live on the west side, so field trips are always on that side...the downside to online public schooling I suppose. But, it also means I was getting more familiar with the drive so they could go to the fun stuff too!
I am in Eastern Wash. Monse, Wash. The problem is I'am in Eastern Wash. out in the Boon Docks I love where I live. Just no customers ha ha ha :):):):)

Oh! Obviously, I'm not a "native" to Washington and don't know my geography, lol. I grew up in Central Oregon, but husband grew up here and took the opprotunity to move back when his work had a promotion available that came with a move "back home".

Went to our third feed store in 3 weeks. They were out of chicks already (chick days...buy 2 chicks and 25 lbs chick starter, get 2 chicks free), but their price on the chicken toys (my husband thinks I’m insane and they don’t need them) was almost half what I was considering paying online, and I picked up some Chick Boost because it was on sale. We also loved this feed store where the other 2 we felt uneasy and almost unwelcome. We will make the 30-40 minute drive to go to this one for sure. Conveniently, it’s only half a mile or so from mymother-in-law’s house, so we go out there pretty regularly anyway.

I do miss their location by my house, they closed it a few years ago “to save money” but I was there all the freaking time even when I didn’t have chickens! Heck, they are at least 50% responsible for me ever getting hens! The other 59%, of course, was my ploy to get a puppy...I never thought my husband would agree to chickens, so I thought it was a “big ask” that could lead to my getting a second dog. 🤣 Now...I have 2 dogs (he said no more dogs after my Lab died), 2 cats (after he said “no more cats”), and we have 15 chicks coming in about 7 weeks! I also asked for an automatic coop door for my anniversary gift this year. I’m spoiled and I know it! Heh

Also where did you go?

I've never used them before, but I've also never ordered chicks to be shipped to me before either, so I wanted to have some on hand for the day they get here. I'm holding off on buying my chick starter for now as I don't really know how much I'll need. 15 chicks for 7 weeks on starter before moving to chick grower...seems like I'll need a 25 lb bag, but I don't know. Also, a little unsure on medicated versus non-medicated...I don't think I "need" medicated, but I haven't really made my mind up yet either. I'm so freaking excited to have chicks again! It's so hard living in a city and having to follow the rules for hen keeping...I'd be ever so happy to have lots and lots of chickens, but I'm only supposed to have 10....lol.

Also where did you go?
The Country Store (used to be Aslin-Finch) out in Spokane Valley. They have 2 locations left, the bigger store closer to downtown Spokane is uncomfortably spaced for my liking and they weren't entirely "friendly" when I was there with my 6 year old. North 40 was horrible IMO, won't go there even though it's much closer to home.

Ok, thanks!

My hubby said "no more birds" after my cockatiel died, and then years later, he agreed to 3 baby chicks. Well the 3 chicks turned into 10 chickens, and now he's even given in on the cockatiel, though I have no plans to get another since they're far more time demanding than chickens.

You'll probably need the big bag. I get 10 lb of starter for 4 chicks and that lasts til about week 6 for me (though that's with adults eating some of it, and both adults and chicks also being offered an all flock feed).

Medicated is up to you, but make sure the chicks aren't vaccinated for coccidiosis as the medicated feed will nullify the vaccination.
