Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

On a sad not lost the partridge silkie tonight to the heat

That sucks. This heat is just too much.

I lost one yesterday and one today. Older silkie hens. One was Pumice who was a favorite pet.

I lost one yesterday. Lots of water and puddles and mist spray for them until this heat ends! Ugh.

It is tough last silkie is my little black she is so small may just bring her in the house tomorrow
I’m so sorry for your losses. :hugs

I have so far not lost any, but I’m hoping my (only) silkie will be ok. And the rest of the chickens, of course.

:hmm

Ugh this is just awful. I’m so sorry to those who have lost chickens or are suffering from this heat in other ways.

Our garage is partially underground and has stayed cool. I’m debating sticking my 4 young hens in a puppy play pen (~4’x4’) in there. It’d be tight for them but would just be for the hottest hours of the day. Thoughts?

I think that’s a good idea.

I would do the same, but my garage is almost as warm as outside and I have 16 chickens so it would be a tight for with all the clutter.

Sounds ideal - 4 birds that get along in a 4x4 pen will be fine for a day.

We're using our garage as something of a heat sink to draw heat out of the house, so unfortunately ours isn't going to stay cooler for long.

I only have older birds right now other than the eggs I hatched last month. Also only one partridge rooster now. One died this morning.

Almost lost my white rooster. He was panting and laying weird in the shade. So he spent 10 minutes in front of the AC. He's beside me now.
