Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

The WSU Pierce County Extension office rents poultry processing equipment. They are based out of Puyallup. Other counties do have extention offices but I didn't see King on the list.

Looks like the Pierce county link is dead, though. I've heard of the county renting poultry processing equipment, but I thought it was way expensive.

I have cones the best way is to have boiled water skin them do not pluck hang the bird by it's ankles .. Use a butcher or filet knife .. Also easier is you have strong hands ..
Only way to help is to show if you choose you can come here, bring the birds we do them all one day

Now that’s a party I’d like to go to! :gig

So to back up a little. How many birds do you have and what equipment do you have access to? Have you checked Facebook for any local Chicken people? I would be in the same boat as you so I’m very interested in how this goes for you.

I have cones and a unit that plugs to a drill as a plucker but found the easiest is to have large pot boiling water dip the skin will peel off if the water is boiling hot

Maybe we could all get together and have a poultry processing party? :D

I definitely don't have strong hands, but I do have a boning knife I don't like, and scalpels. I figure I can do everything I need with just the scalpels, especially if I use cervical dislocation as the cull method and skin rather than pluck. I also just carve off the meat and discard the bones with everything else, primarily due to lack of space in the fridge lol.

Altogether I have six birds that need to be harvested sometime this month. I'm not on Facebook, or any social media really. I didn't think of checking there, that's a good idea.

I always have found plucking easier than skinning, BUT, I'm usually doing silkie cockerels. The fluffy feathers get in the way. Sometimes I just dry pluck them to not have feathers on everything. The EE boys are much easier to do.

I always piece out the birds before setting them in the fridge for a couple days, then into the freezer. Take less space that way.

A pair of pliers for wing primaries is nice. I also have a pair of pruning shears for any bones I need to cut.
