28 degrees at 3:15 pm. Well, 1-3" forecast for tonight. Maybe we'll be back to pre-snow roads by next Monday? Supposed to warm up after Jan. 1. back into the low 40's. Yeah, don't hold our breath. We are known for bi-polar weather. My girls are itching for warmer weather. Grass is all frozen under the snow (hubby's truck protected a patch). Moles are on the move! Our roads got sanded and plowed. Not sure what 3 more inches of snow will do to that.

I offered to let my chooks out today and they all just stood at the run gate, looking at all of the snow like "what is this crap??" I gave them some corn and shut them back in the run again.

Found one of my Australorp girls dead in the coop. Not sure what did her in, because she looked super healthy - aside from having expired. I also think she was one of my excellent egg layers, but not 100% sure. Sad day.

The university has a necropsy lab in Puyallup, if you want to find out why she died. Latest cost is $40.

Yeah, but I don't think I want to go through the trouble. She didn't act at all sick and none of the other gals do either. No frostbite or distress from the cold to be seen.

It is always sad and distressing to find expired chooks, no matter the cause. Peace and comfort to you.

We went out to the mail today but it was balmy 30 out when we did. Will try to get to our feed store tomorrow ?
May get a couple more inches of snow then also..
