And a lovely day it was. Took the chicks outside to play for awhile. They're at the point of trying out their wings and posturing for pecking order. Didn't realize or remember that they do this, this soon (3-4 wks). It's fun to watch.

Backyard flocks exploded over the last few years.. Still is!

And with the inflation I am seeing, there will probably be more. Saving all my bacon grease! The price of bacon has risen at least 30%, Butter at Costco used to be around $9, It was $12 this past week!

I grew up in Wisconsin first 8 years was home schooled by my Aunt .. Came out here in 68 settled on the Western side. Sometimes rain gets to me .. Then sun comes out and fine.

Yay, the sun is out now!

Weather here has been ok, but there are times I really mist the dryer weather of Utah, though I don't miss the bigotry and stupidity of Utah. I am impressed with my little girls so far this year as I am getting an average of 5 eggs a day from the 7 big enough to lay. Some days getting an egg for all of them.

I can understand that there are the stupid here .. The town I am in has a few of them just not the total of them.

Hello! New chicken owner here. In Maple Valley - just got my first chicks 3 weeks ago, 2 barred and 2 easter eggers. Worried one of the EE might be a roo, based on slow feathering compared to 'her' sisters and behavior, but not sure it's really possible to tell at 3.5 weeks. What should I be on the lookout for?

Probably going to have to wait until it's a bit older, then you're looking at feather coloration and patterning, as well as for comb redness.

Wait to tell. More adult feather color and pattern is better for telling. I bought a dozen easter eggers when I first got chickens over a decade ago. All feathered in at different rates. All were hens.

Still have one of them. She's very healthy at 11 and still pushy.
