That's really what I'm hoping for. I'm going to need to start watching closely so I can put the eggs from the hen of my choice under the broody. I guess that will work, won't it? Swapping out the broody's eggs?

Oh yes, they'll take all the eggs you give them, but can only sit on so many. We once had 16 eggs under a broody. That's clearly too many. lol She collected them herself. All the chickens would come to her box and lay their eggs and she just included them. Funny girl.

Are you raising a breed that at least goes occasionally broody? The ameraucana Ive had would go broody once a year at most. My last one is currently broody.

I have barred rocks, not heritage quality, just run of the mill feed store chicks. From what I've read, they don't tend toward broodiness.

There is a couple on youtube I just love, ? Simple living Alaska, she has wooden fake eggs, and when she is ready for a hen to go broody, she, like saying May, will put these under a hen and leave them, and its like 10 of them,
in a few weeks her hen goes broody, then she sets eggs that she wants hatched aside, I have read 7 days is the limit- then when she has the eggs, all at once she puts them under the hen and takes away the wood ones.

Good Morning state Folks my hens seem to prefer the ceramic ones maybe cuz they always had them ? I get 2 more a day? Nope finished molting.
My four black sex link have stopped laying.
I cleared a nest in the hazel nuts they had, have not layed since.
Maybe a rooster will encourage them.

Need to figure out how to put Pete in not beat up Jake.
Start taking the crate in the coop.

I went and opened the front door to let the god out and this is what I saw

I got up around 3:30 and it looked like the sun was coming up it was so bright out. Heck of a moon! Tonight, too. Sturgeon moon, super moon.

I'm surprised that my rooster didn't start crowing. Guess he can tell moonlight from sunlight. Or he has in internal clock.
