Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We went and spent yesterday with T Hi and her DD. I helped put up a few more Christmas lights and gave her the 3 BIG inflatables I had. We put them in her front yard seemed to make Toni pretty happy.
Due to some problems I wasn't able to get pics of her yard until after dark and then all my phone would show was a blur of light. Toni's DD did get this pic of Dyson and Quincy working together to put up lights.

And putting up all those lights is hard work on a little guy!!! Requires a nap after.

Thank you for the grand welcome!

I finally finished my tractor coop, except I need to put the wheels on it! It is exciting! My ladies are now safe and sound in their own little hen house. Q1: How do I get them to coop up at night? I don't think they've ventured "upstairs".

I've had a visitor all weekend! Apparently, the people who lived behind me moved out and left their poor lady in the shed with no water and a handful of cornflakes!

My inner fire raged at that. She wants in with my pullets in the coop, follows me around cackling at me until I pick her up. lol... she's almost like a dog. I can't tell, being uber newbie, how old she is or what she is! Q2: Can anyone help me? She's fully feathered, her coloring is still spectacular (no bleaching), her vent appears moist and pink, but her breast bone is rigid, and we found no indications of eggs in her abandoned coop and she hasn't laid any in my garage (where's she's made a new roost on top of my shelf).

Any ideas?

Speaking of: can I put her in with my pullets?
I think I figured it out... Ameraucana or EE...

I am of absolutely no useful help, I just wanted to say she's gorgeous and the folks who abandoned her are dirtbags. Poor thing, and so friendly! With a stranger! I really like her look -- sort of an eagle's head! Whatever she is, I think I have to get some now. Standard size you think, or bantam?

(See - not only am I no help, i even asked you a question!)

Absolutely not a problem! And I think you should get some as well.

I agree they are not kind, however, they were going through a divorce and so, it's definitely not my place to judge, but I will gladly provide food and shelter to this beautiful bird they left behind!

She appears to be standard size, I presume, I honestly have never seen a bantam... Must add that to my bucket list. She is a pretty big bird, I'd say probably 6-7lbs and fully feathered. Her feathers are beautiful too.

Bumblefoot update -

Drove all over North Bend and Issaquah looking for that powder (name escapes me). iphone showed Petco carries it, but it turns out you have to order it. So I am ordering some. I got home when it was already dark, so I tried to treat her foot first thing Sunday morning

She is an early riser - barely light, and she was already at te feeder stuffing herself. The Bumblefoot did not look nearly as bas as I had originally thought. She has a round lump under her foot that is bulging a bit around her long toe. There is no visible scab/plug/entry wound. She walks on it just fine, but sometimes lifts it when she roosts. I filled an emesis basin with warm water and some epsom salts in it. When I first lifted her to put her in the bath, she protested a little, but as soon as she felt the warm water, she seemed to enjoy the rest of her pedicure. She stood in the bath a full 15 minutes, eating bread pieces from our hands, preening , and drinking the water she stood in. At 15 minutes she jumped up on the side of the basin and pooped in the water -end of bath!

I did not lance her foot - After that nasty infection I had in the spring, I am afraid of exposing myself to something. The powder is supposed to work without surgery. I did smother it in neosporin and then I wrapped it. She can still walk on it fine as it has only a light wrap. After every few steps she lifts her foot and bends her neck down to inspect the bandage, but always gets distracted by her own feathes - she is mostly covered in pin-feathers now but has a few stray old feathers hanging on at odd angles and she tries to pull those at times. Hopefully the powder will be here in a couple of days, but in the mean time I feel much more relaxed because her infected foot does not look bad at all, and she barely seems bothered by it. Her ugly state of molt just makes her look very pathetic.

When chickens have pin feathers coming through, do those hurt or make them preoccupied? A couple weeks ago one of my birds had a really strange looking spot on her tail (under some feathers) that she kept preening and was very preoccupied with it for days. I kept an eye on it and it was weird and red....and resembled a sore...or a teeny tiny nipple!

LOL She hasn't been bothered by it lately and to be honest I'd forgotten about it, but if I checked now I'm assuming it was a pin feather and that she would now have a small feather growing huh?

That is the oil gland.
