Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Processing carrots today. Clean, cut, blanch and freeze on a cookie sheet. That's the plan. Hens get the greens.

And it's time to start picking the climbing rattlesnake beans. Gonna have to leave my step ladder in the garden until they stop producing.

I've heard others who have had strange things grow from seed packets.
One of my Baker Creek collard seeds grew into a plant that has leaves more like turnips, not collards. I eat them just the same.

Carrots are in the freezer. The only "vegetable" brush I had to scrub grit off of the carrot skin was a new toothbrush that was in my SHTF supplies. Took a while but it worked. I think I'll end up with about a half gallon's worth.

The late carrots I plant will be left in the garden all winter, mulched over to prevent a hard freeze. I probably won't need carrots in my freezer unless the late season carrots don't produce.

Going to be hot today, probably 95 degrees. Still have to water the garden. House is already closed up to hold in the 71 degrees it is now. Might try out my portable AC today.

I picked all the pickable kale and collard leaves and saw no more aphids. I pulled up all the kale and collard plants and gave them to the chickens. Left two kale plants for seed. I picked a nice head of cauliflower (6 inches in diameter) and gave the big plant to the chickies too.
