It is finally cold enough to kill bugs. 25 this morning. Two of my hens are loosing feathers ??? Not supposed to be. I’ll do a mite check on all of the chickens today.
Penny I am sorry SH is still waiting for someone to do something, this must be so frustrating for you both.
I am praying for the staff and you both.

Good morning. It's 22 here. That is cold. Need to go out and check the waterers for the chickens. Fortunately the two of them are heated, but Cooper's isn't in the bachelor pad. I'm sure it is frozen. DH just got up. He generally does the morning chicken chores.

It's 20 degrees over here. I'm just about ready to take out their warm water to drink.

Pepper, onion and shallot seeds planted yesterday. The gardening season begins...

Good mornin out at 8:15 26 here so warm spot ?
Gave mealworms to the birds pure protein.

fricken cold!!! woke up 7:30 am and 21 degrees outside its now 10:30 and still just 24.... went out to the coop to let the chickens out into the run and the coop door was frozen shut. Made their Hot mash and added red pepper flakes and meal worms to help boost their protein and warm them up from the inside out

We have warmed to 36 here now.
I use cat boxes for water outside they have been there a few years.
Both developed holes from the freezing have to get new ones.

Its 39, out now,
checked the hens- No mites,, just two trying their best to regrow tail feathers, one I dont think ever got any last year,, yes their water was frozen this morning. I took out fresh and put it on the chain inside the coop,
between the two feeders,


instead of in the covered area.

We hit 18° last night. There was a thin layer of ice in the water bowls. It stays much warmer in the pen row.

Id went out after dark and plucked all birds off the fence and stuffed them in the houses. None were happy about it.

Ground was frozen enough for me to safely drive my truck on the lawn. Just backed it around the front and side of the house so I was closer to the pens. Got straw yesterday to put down today. Could actually use the wheelbarrow since the mud outside the pens was frozen.

up at 4am, it was 22 out
This time of winter I keep one water jug in the house and just rotate- bring the frozen one in and take out fresh. they are5gal, but I dont fill them. I just put enough for the day.

accuweather changed the snow report for Feb. ?maybe snow the 6th - 15?? but,, it is what it is,

23 degrees here this morning. It has been getting up to 40 by afternoon, so not too bad.
