Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Almost lost a fight with a gamma lid. Finally had to turn the bucket upside down and stand on it until the ring seated. Both hubby and I fought it. Got to put the flour in the bucket now and see how much room is left. Might get another bag then.

2 more 5 gallon buckets to go. Need to stock the rice. Did find an old bucket of pinto beans in the back bedroom buried under storage. We can still eat those.

Trying to insulate us some from food price rise.

Oh Ive always stored food. Grew up doing it. Getting iced in during winter was a thing.

Sometimes I just get a feeling. Last time I did was in 2020 and started hoarding canning lids about February. Then the lid shortage hit. I had to send some of my wide mouth lids to my uncle because he couldn't do his canning. Actually surprised him when Mom took the box to him.

I usually only store extra of what we use. Unless I forget I have it. Like the bucket of beans. Those need the pressure cooker now. I'll use them.

Only issue is the small bucket of salt. Got such a good deal and then hubby was told last year low salt because of his kidneys. Cant make sauerkraut, pickles, or anything for him anymore.

But perhaps you can make sauerkraut for yourself? There are so many reasons for storing food. In our area, they have discussed taking out 3 dams upstream from us. We live on the river. Also, there is a landslide area between us and the highway, and in such a rural area that they may not fix it in a timely manner. So many other things. It just seems like a good idea. And when we need it, we will have shrimp etouffee, or beef barley soup, or some other delicious meal we've made instead of the premade purchased freeze dried foods. 😁

Its the jealousy. He loves sauerkraut. I can make kimchi for myself.

He only gets the tuna that I can because salts always added too. Thats another favorite problem food

I have no space for a freeze dryer. Tiny house. Maybe if we ever get a shop built.
