Don't think I've seen you here before. Welcome!View attachment 4086453New babies!
In the past year, I have lost 4 of my hens to accident and "old age" bringing me down to 7 hens, 3 from my order 5 years ago (my CB Shadow, Lovey my White Cochin momma, and Lady an EE that hates me and yells all day if I'm outside) and my 4 Grey Silkies (Blu, Charlie, Delta, and Echo...Charlie and Echo are both CB gals too). So, these 3 babies bring me back to my "city mandated limit of 10"! I was at North 40, not expecting to actually find chicks (they've only had turkeys the last few times I was there) and they were just loading the bins! So, I picked out a Cinnamon Queen (whom I have named Debbie, after the hen in the newer Lost in Space show), a Blue Jersey Giant (I have always wanted a Jersey Giant), and an "assorted Brahma" (I specifically asked the gal to grab me this little yellow chick...she ran to me when I was looking in the glass on the bin)...I assume from her color now that she's a Light Brahma, but again, Brahma has been a "bucket list" breed for me. I wanted a red hen to name Debbie, the show used a RIR, I have owned RIR and NHR's in the past, so I'm happy to bring a new "red breed" to the yard.
I haven't named the BJG or the LB yet...but since they have only been here about 48 hours, I haven't really seen their personalities yet. I currently have 2 broody hens (Lovey and Delta), but they, of course, refused the babies, so they are "orphans" and have each other with my brooder plate and a "seed mat" for warmth in the outdoor "brooder coop" since my mommas don't actually want the babies. They didn't hurt them, they just had zero interest in taking care of them. Current temp on top of the seed mat is 80 degrees (I have a heat and humidity in there that I can monitor from the house, I bought it for my garden this summer.)
