Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Wow, seems a lot has been going down since the last time I got on here! Going to have to try to catch up later. Just wanted to say HI!! and share some exciting news... Today was my FIRST 3 egg day since getting my 5 hens from ChickieLady!!!

SOOOO Excited!

Now to figure out if the drop in eggs was from molting or hidden nests after they started free ranging the front half of 14 acres! I'm chalking it up to molting as I know the Javas were for sure. Hopefully it was just coincidence that the extra eggs just happened to show up the two days they were locked in the pen.

Oh also, my mom has a nice bird cage she is selling. It housed her Quaker Parrot until he passed of a heart attack

She is ready to let it go now, and is asking $100. If any one is interested PM me. Thanks!

Hi Friends!
It's been what? - a good couple months and we're up to 5962 posts?
Out of those I think I've only posted two or three times but I've read each and every one.
All I've got to say is this is a fabulous bunch of folks.

I'm planning a Northend get together for January - or at least before my tax season starts.
How's the first or second weekend of January look?
Wanna come? Please PM me with good dates/times for you and I'll get it all organzied.

Meanwhile, keep those photos coming.
The baby chicks are so cute!
And our very own superhero in his red glasses - oh my, how cute is he?
(I'll add a couple photos from last year to our collection!)

Well, this might be it for me until after the holidays so...
Merry Christmas to all!
Ruth

Ruth! It's so good to see you! I hope you are doing well. Anytime in Jan. works for me. My schedule is totally flexible.

WOW !!!!! Simply WOW Someone pops in here I won't mention any names but the initials are Dr Bjorn Netland . And on first visit wants to change the way we are. Well this pains me to see that someone with obviously NO UNDERSTANDING of what the WA thread is about should come and try to change us. I have said this before and must say am pleased that some have shown to have learned and benefited by it. From way back when I started here and probably before. This has been a SOCIAL thread. Our common ground is poultry (mostly chickens).
We CHOOSE to be on THIS thread because for many if not all of us it is a SOCIAL OUTLET. And while we don't always talk poultry. If one has a poultry question they are free to toss it out there and it will very likely be answered.
We do have a lot of different opinions and often voice them. But I think it fair to say that we also respect each others opinion.
For what it is worth I can tell you that the WA thread is highly looked up to by many from other areas. If you choose to stick around you will notice that we have regular posters from several other states.

In closing I will just say that if you ONLY want to talk poultry you may be happier finding the thread (s) of the topics that interest you. And should you decide to give us a second look and learn what we are about. I will welcome you on board.

Merry Christmas to you too! My schedule is free and clear right now. I'm really looking forward to it!

Honestly, the responses to my request to leave non-poultry related topics for other sites are truly disappointing. Perhaps people need to refer back to the title of this website: "backyardschickens.com" -- and I believe we could easily rally around that content, even when it comes to guns for a means to protect against poultry predators and the like. I am not for or against guns per se, but I am sick and tired of having this issue interfering with just about any forum these days, along with religion, race, etc. etc. The statement that we should all be free to speak our minds misses the point entirely, for strongly held "belief" statements unrelated to our hobby (on these controversial subjects) serve only to alienate and drive away those who want to exchange ideas and experiences regarding poultry. After all, this is a forum for poultry fanciers--not a political outlet. Believe me, I speak from experience as the "gun issue" caused an incredible amount of grief in a poultry club back east, so why not stay on topic?
I'm with you. Sex, religion, and politics (gun control comes under politics) don't belong here. They belong in the random ramblings section. Anyone who wants to talk gun control should go there to start a thread, properly labelled, so people know what they're getting into or can choose to avoid the thread. I don't want to be ambushed here.

It's been snowing out here too.  I took some treats to the girls and told them that today is not a good day to forage and they just screamed at me even louder than before.  :barnie
I left the gate open for mine Si they could wander the yard, but they refused to step in the white stuff, they would not even go into their covered snow-free run except to drink! After snowing all day, it is raining now, so maybe in the morning they will go out.
