Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

The youngest chickens are now 5 months old and still have not laid an egg am I gonna have to wait until spring for them to lay?? their combs and waddles are still pinkish compared to the rest of the girls and Bigum's who is definitely out doing the doo :celebrate he doesn't try to mate with them so I'm guessing he knows what he is doing... LOL:fl
He is very aggressive; I don't see him courting anyone more like a blitz attack!!! think I'm gonna have to make a separate run and house for him to settle down. still have not seen any eggs showing the sign that they are fertilized but he out there every day doing the Doo :wee Bigum's is 5-month-old too, so just a cockerel. would like to get some chicks from him next year what are the odds or should I wait til he is older??

I think you'll get some chicks from him in spring if not late winter. Not sure I would separate him unless he is harming the hens.

Yeah they don't look close to laying yet, so you probably won't start seeing eggs until daylight hours start lengthening again.

I ordered the last of what I'll need for the Thanksgiving feast from Wallyworld. Should be here this evening. I'm also getting a 5 yard load of hog fuel (shredded wood) delivered tomorrow to use as chicken run bedding.

And I finally decided on where/how to build another pair of runs to use as growout pens for my chicks, right next to the existing runs, under the overhanging shop roof. I should be able to get it built within the next week or so.

That's a great plan for the grow out coop.

Cookie planning today. I have cut way back on shipping cookies this year. Trying to phase out of it, but it would be a disappointment to the kids, so sending less than I usually do. It's kind of sad to lose interest in this tradition. I've been doing it for 54 years now.
