Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

lovingchickiepoos Yes it is a miracle!! I've had it happen to me a few times in my life. I'm ready to cry just thinking about it. That's why we all have to hang on.

Here is Frodo, doing very well! She ate all the mealworms I got for the other chickens for Christmas, will have to get them more!

My friend gave me the beautiful chicken photo that is keeping her company.

This is her little setup, next to my chair. No cage needed =)

Yesterday we had six eggs!

Our Spitz, Heidi, lay her first egg, a tiny, pointy white one :)

Both Brabanters laid an egg yesterday - first time for one of them I think!

And Foxglove laid her first egg since molting!

the girls are enjoying the longer days too!

All pullets except Frodo are laying now!

Dawn
I am so glad that she is doing well. What did you end up using to close up the back of her head? Liquid skin is what I was going to suggest but I was to late and someone had already suggested it.
The picture to keep her company is really a cute idea.

On another note, I was watching a show called Money Barn. Auctioneers are called in when someone has a barn full of goodies that they want auctioned off. They compete to get the job. There are so many amazing things in these barns. Anyways, one last night there was a painting (can't remember who it was by) of a broody hen with newly hatched chicks! Oh it was so very amazingly beautiful. I guess one that was half the size of this one went for $10,000. Then one of they Auctioneers that new a lot about art came in and let them know that this painting could go for between $20,000-$30,000 and that in 20 years it would go up at least 40% more in value!!!!! At that auction it went for $25,500. Man I wish I had found that in my barn lol.
I am going to see if I can look up the picture.

Wow, over 300 posts to catch up on. Been visiting family in Port Angeles....where there is NO internet and sometimes cell reception. In other words, it was perfect. Great company, drinks, food and football! My husband and I couldn't have been happier.

I loved seeing the pictures from everyone's Christmas!

Welcome to the thread Jessica....and to Washington! It rains a lot here....and it's often windy. I have one bit of advice for you, store your umbrellas and go out and buy a nice marmot/northface/etc raincoat. The first wind storm will ruin your umbrella.

Glad to see Frodo is doing better!

Safe travels everyone! The holiday season isn't over yet!

Well I found the name of the artist, Ben Austrian! He dose a lot of awesome chicken paintings. I did find a picture of the one I saw on that show last night but it was so small there was no point.

I know this will freak out a lot of ya'll, but as I sat here looking for the pictures I thought I had a hair down the front of my shirt and it was bugging me so after about 5 min. I reached in to get it out and turns out it was a stupid spider. Dang thing you don't belong there. Apparently he bit me to, what a stupid head. LOL

Hi my name is Jessica and my husband Chris just got orders to be stationed at Ft Lewis in Feb. I was just curious, since we havent found a house yet, where are some good places to live near the post that are Chicken/duck friendly?  We have 6 hens of various breeds, a Mandarin breeding pair and a white cheeked bahama pintail breeding pair.
Hi Jessica, my name is Kathy. I haven't ever replied to any posts before since I have been spending so much time gathering so much information. I live between Rainier and Yelm, WA. There a lot of military folks in Yelm and surrounding area (McKenna, Roy, Spanaway). There is a lot of country out this way that is animal friendly. We have an alpaca farm...with 23 pacs, 2 mini donkeys, over 40 chickens, 2 ducks, 4 dogs, 5 cats, 2 parrots, and I think that is it. If you want a reference person feel free to email me..... [email protected]
Welcome to the area!

Pacachick, welcome to BYC and the chatty Washingtonians; I'm always glad to see another Thurston County person around! I lived in Yelm until I was 15, and my mom and her siblings all went to Yelm Schools. I'm in Lacey now, on a farm Dad's family bought some time between 1895-1901 (we have conflicting paper records). We have Shorthorn and Angus beef cattle and I have Silver Spangled Hamburgs, EE's and BLRWs and a solitary Barbu d'Anvers.

So, what kind of chickens do you raise?
