Sounds like the "how do ya catch a polar bear"Funny Rooster story for you this morning. My DDiL called to tell me about finally getting the first olive egg, then went on to tell about the new EE boy who has finally figured out a way to get the ladies' attention. He digs a hole, several actually, then when a hen gets close he trips them so they'll step down into the hole. While they're "down" he grabs their neck and gets busy! Sounds like an inventive 6th grader to me!![]()
WAIT did I miss something???HAPPY NEW YEAR WASHINGTONIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey FYI we DO have a couple new(er) peeps down yer way. nikki99 is one that I remember. Very nice young lady with a great family. I think there are another or 2 but they don't come to mind right now.LOL! I overlooked the Rainier, WA! Oh well! It's all good! Sometimes I can be a goof!![]()
Oh and was just saying Happy New Year early as I won't be online much after today.....getting ready for my New Year's Eve Birthday Bash on Monday. Lots of stuff to do.
Quote: Well this is my first broody in winter, but no I am not giving her any heat. I am one that thinks chickens are fine, they did it in the wild with no extra heat. So other than chicks my girls do not get heat during the winter.
Congrats on getting the part, that will be so fun for you! Make sure to keep everyone posted.Still have pages and pages to catch up with, but at least I'm back online with a new password! I hope everyone had a good holiday. It was pretty busy here as we were having DH's family over for Christmas Eve and I was trying to create the Christmas Fantasy that I always have in my mind, but fail miserably in the clean house, perfectly decorated, wonderful food, fabulous hostess categories. I end up settling for the 3 clean rooms, closed doors with yellow hazard tape across them so folks stay out, a few decorations, good food and I was still relaxed enough to make sure my guests and I had a good time. All in all it was a pretty good evening with his side of the family.
I am sorry to report that my beautiful black silkie, Isadora, (my avatar) passed away a couple of weeks before Christmas. I noticed one morning she didn't come out of the VF coop and was puffed up so I brought her inside the house, bathed her, looked her over for anything that might be ailing her, kept her warm, and tried to give her vitamins in her water. But I couldn't get her to eat or drink and she died the next night. The others are all doing well. DD's lavender girl has started laying pretty bantam eggs. And the little buff roo is finding his big boy crow so has to go soon.![]()
I did get some incredibly exciting news last week. I auditioned for a theater group in Olympia called "Theater Artist's Olympia" that does pretty edgy stuff. They are producing Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" with both a male cast AND an all female cast, calling it "Reservoir Dolls". I got a call the very next day after auditions asking if I would accept the role of "Jo", the crew boss even before callbacks! I was told they wanted to lock me into the role before I had a chance to commit to anything else. Callbacks for all other roles are going to be next week and I've been asked to attend so I can read with actors still looking to be cast.
I am super excited about this role as it's unlike anything I've ever done before, but it's definitely not for everyone. I've already told a few friends and family they are not in any way obligated to see this show. There is really strong language and violence. Typical Tarantino. But as an actor, it's going to be really interesting to play the female "crew boss" of criminals working a diamond heist...
Here's a pic I liked of DH and I attending my Dad's Law Firm party this year -

Silly man, afraid of a little bat yet you can go in take out hives and swarms of bees! I think you may have a couple screws lose in that head of yours. Maybe someone needs toWow I almost died this morning !!!! I was looking through some sheets of plywood we have standing up at the stables. Well as I am pulling them out to look between. I get about 6 sheets deep when all of the sudden OH S***!!! There was a BAT hibernating in there. That thing was HUGE it had to have been as big as a dang quarter !!!! And it was trying to kill me. I know cause I heard it hiss. Well when I got done slamming the plywood back together the bat was about the size of a dinner plate. Needless to say it was little more than a red smear then. Yes I have issues with bats and if that ain't bad enough they seek me out. Yes there are witnesses. Talk about freak the heck out!!! I can't help it I just loose it. And a gun in hand Oh H*** NO !!!! my barn has holes to show before I figured out that me, bats and guns DO NOT mix well. even though it was bird shot. That stuff still takes out lights and makes holes in walls and tin!!! Some day I will tell ya about getting trapped in the attic with a whole colony. heck there must have been 3 or 4. I dang near just kicked my way down through the ceiling!!some sense into you

Well, well, an update of my culling the pyscho hen.
I cannot believe how calm the flock was today. Not one hen being chased and/or tormented. All 8 were together in the run and not one was chased and pecked. It was amazing to me after all these months of watching the antics of the pyscho one. I should have culled her when she was 2 weeks old, but I'm not quite that hard hearted I guess.
I will however never tolerate another agressive hen.
Well I am always hoping to find more peeps down my way. See the shopping (aka Rustling) is pretty skimpy here. I know nikki is in the Kelso / CR area. I am off exit 68 and mikeyb is up near 88. Seems like there were some in Kalama too. Wish we could have met up when We came to Wilco for their Grand open. I do go to Winco for my grubbins. Maybe we could time a meet up and maybe draw nikki99 out too.You guys and gals are a HOOT! I'm coming back around here more often!I think over the last few years I've missed some pretty good times in here!![]()
Chicken Rustler~ I would love to meet more folks closer to my area and to the north of me. Over the last 4+ years I have met more folks from Oregon than I have from Washington.
But I can tell what the bees are going to do by their smell and sound. The bat is unknown!!!Silly man, afraid of a little bat yet you can go in take out hives and swarms of bees! I think you may have a couple screws lose in that head of yours. Maybe someone needs tosome sense into you
