Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Fried potatoes and onions. Ok now I need to go see how many onions I have left because I want to make that. DH wants liver soon, too, and I have to have onions with that. I can make me the potatoes and onions and him his liver and onions since I can't stand liver.

Since I started getting eggs (March 2010) I have gotten 8,844 eggs

Wow! I almost choked on a Mini Wheat when I read that. LOL. That's a LOT of eggs!

Wow, I just went over my records and we got 865 eggs since August when my girls started laying...not including what may be in the nest box since noon today.

I'm about ready to call-1-800-Giant Fishing Nets. I'm home now. She's alive. Whew! I let the big girls out to free-range with her. I'm not even going to attempt to catch her until DH gets home to help. Wish she'd quit escaping when I get her out of the coop in the morning. She wiggled out of my hands this morning.

I'm watching her free-range with the big girls - Drama chased her once, but so far, so good. I'm half tempted to attempt to put her in the coop/run again this evening for a bit so see how that goes. If only she could be mixed in with the big girls and have access to the pop-door, then this problem would go away.

I can't say I've kept egg records - but I've had 15 chickens go through our home since I got my first 3 on a whim last April. Does that count for anything?

"You Can't Rollerskate in a Buffalo Heard" Roger Miller - 1964
OH... I love that one, I'd forgotten all about it.

I started playing the organ in 1957 when I was 5, and my first song was Mary Had A Little Lamb. But I remember belting out "Jesus Loves Me" in Sunday school. But I'll bet Gene Autrey's "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" had to be in there somewhere, too. Good Memories! Thanks Mikey!

The fish landing nets are well worth the money. We have two. One for each of us. I have one of the dogs taught to try and put the pointed out chicken in the run. She'll go through the little spots I can't get through that the chickens like to hide from in me. I send her around and wait on the other side with the net.

If I don't have the other dog out, she doesn't stop until they are in the run. I guess the word that she'll stick her cold wet nose on their butts got around because when she's in that position they all get out of her way.

I don't know if it would help you decide to do this or not, but I always just let them be. If they're old enough to run away (like in the yard) or fly away from the big girls, I'd let Latte get used to them without interfering. You could also watch and see where she goes when it gets dark. I bet she'd just head in the coop or run without you chasing her, or she might settle down in the bushes but once it's dark it would be easy to just nab her and stick her on the roost with the big girls. When we got our little girls we put them in the rabbit hutch for a few days but they wanted out so badly, and they could fly away from the big girls so well, and they were so bold, that we just started leaving the hutch door open. They were only 6 weeks old and the big girls were 18 weeks old and HUGE, and we never had any injuries. They got used to each other a bit when the littles were still in the rabbit hutch, then they started mingling 4 days later.

And... I can only imagine what the neighbors, who have full view of my backyard, must be thinking when they see me running around, reaching down, getting back up and running again. They can't see the ground, so they can't see the chickens, they can just see me. I'm sure they probably think I've completely gone bonkers with my new exercise routine.
