Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We get a lot more onions from our garden than we can use before they spoil, so we chop them and freeze in ziploc bags. I was pleasantly surprised last week when I sauted some for soup, it worked really well. And wonderful to have on hand when you need some!

We do this too. It's nice to have "fresh" veggies when you need them. I also save lots and lots of unused veggies this way, and whenever I make some sort of veggie or Minestrone soup, I pull out the bag full of frozen veggie scraps and toss those in. Great way to reduce out waste!

Well Poo, Crud, and fluffin ducks! Guess I better tell my stupid friend to take her onions back to the store or find a better use for them.....

Note to stupid self, take all those stupid onions back to the stupid store or find some thing stupid to cook with them!
Also DON'T FALL FOR STUPID STUFF AGAIN!
LOL
You could always can caramelized onions. http://www.littlehouseliving.com/canning-caramelized-onions.html I also understand onion/bacon marmalade is awesome. Or chop and freeze for later use.

DH is working overtime tonight. His antibiotics have started working...mine haven't really. Still have a bad cough and sinus pressure/pain. Can't wait to get rid of this infection! Gonna stay up late watching tV and folding lots of laundry on my clean floors. Got a new vacuum at Costco last night and spent all day cleaning the house!

OH... I love that one, I'd forgotten all about it.

I started playing the organ in 1957 when I was 5, and my first song was Mary Had A Little Lamb. But I remember belting out "Jesus Loves Me" in Sunday school. But I'll bet Gene Autrey's "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" had to be in there somewhere, too. Good Memories! Thanks Mikey!

The first music I can really remember that touched me was when about 5, I think. My mother would crank up the sound on her record the flight of the bumble bee. I can remember running around the house like a manic bee flying around in circles. Still love that song.

And... I can only imagine what the neighbors, who have full view of my backyard, must be thinking when they see me running around, reaching down, getting back up and running again. They can't see the ground, so they can't see the chickens, they can just see me. I'm sure they probably think I've completely gone bonkers with my new exercise routine.

You really want to pull their chain? When they are watching, go get your vacuum out and start vacuuming your chicken yard. That will confirm their suspicions!

Ok, I just gotta vent to some of my fellow washingtonians. Is it just me or did the sun NEVER come up today???? I swear it was dusk all day! I couldn't figure out why my chickens wanted to go out so badly when all I wanted to do was hibernate. Its tough to homeschool your kids from a coma! I am desperately praying for an early summer. I am so jealous of people in warmer areas or with bigger barns who are hatching already. I want me some peeps! And I need the sunshine for that so come on spring. Let's get on with it!!!!

(yes I do realize that I live in the Seattle area and spring won't actually be here for another 5 months but seriously, today was ugly!)

Thank you for letting me vent. I feel better now. :)
All I can do is reassure you is that yes you can homeschool your children from a coma. DH and I succeeded in getting both kids through the first couple of years of college. One even graduated. I still am not certain how we managed to succeed some days. It does help too not school at home, rather than true homeschool. I think Seattle would be a little easier if it was warmer. I'm native, so the grey thing doesn't bother me so much, but the cold is just plain icky anymore. I can say this while sitting here with a space heater going full blast underneath my chair as I type.

I have two white silkies left, after losing the smallest one while we were on vacation. These are the two that Sheryl thought would be boys. I'm crossing my fingers that she was wrong, since it's so hard to sex silkies! Would you all mind taking a look and telling me what you think?

I really hope I've got at least one pullet to add to my flock. I need to get the other birds used to silkies before they grow up!

ETA: I think these are about 14 weeks old?

I seem to remember reading on one of the National Silkie web sites, that the only way to tell a Silkie cockerel from a Silkie pullet is when it either lays an egg or it crows. So far this has been pretty much the only way I have known one way or the other for sure.

You can tell I am still a city gal! Got my wrangles and my rustles all mixed up

Not to mention that the only way to catch a naughty chicken is with fishing gear. So I bought a fishing net, and the clerk asks me what kind of fish would be fishing for. I looked him in the eye a told him "Chicken".

I have managed to catch every chicken that I have gone fishing for since too.
