Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My rhode island red just started losing a bunch of feathers in the last few days too! The back of her neck is completely bare. The top of her head is thin. She stopped laying a couple of weeks ago.
sounds like shes molting. I have a gold sex link and a EE that just started molting this week

Slinglings. I know he cares for your saftey but you should ask him to teach you.
Without use of a good saw you are limiting your building.

It's all about someone teaching you, or even these days you could go onto youtube and learn how to use one.
I use to do work years ago for a woman contractor.
Her dad taught her one of the best workers I've ever met.

Woman shouldn't limit themselves imo.

If he is still balking get a chop saw.
You can do so many great things with that type of saw and they are very safe and easy to work with for a long time unlike a skill saw where if you cutting a lot it gets to you unless you have top of the line one that doesn't weigh a lot and if you not in the business or use it every day a waste of $$$.
I've had a chop saw now going on four years and it sure beats using a skill saw when I don't have to use one.
Got that Ryobi chop saw from HD for $99.00 and it has been used a whole lot.

Hi all,

I live in Buckley and have five chickens. My ex gave me two chickens back in may 2012. The rhode island red has lost more than 60 percent of her feathers since Monday. Her back and belly are bare. If she molts this quick does she grow back the feathers quick? She must be cold as it's 40 degrees out....the other chicken my ex gave me started her molt in September and still loses just an occasional feather.

By the way, I had never been around chickens and boy did I fall in love with them. But my leader Betty the rhode island red is really ugly with almost all feathers gone. The other chickens kind of kept their distance today from her.,..

Spring is almost here...

I have one that is molting too. I've decided during the night to bring her into the garage under a 40 watt bulb for some heat but not much, and so she has NO wind hitting her. But she was freezing and shaking when outside after sundown. And she is now bald on her back, stomach, neck... well she has a few feathers on her butt and some on her wings is all. then a bunch coming in.
Just watch your chicken and make sure it's not showing signs that it's to cold like mine did.
