Appenzellar Spitzhauben x He was a great bird...albeit, SUPER annoying! I wanted to keep him so badly but he wasn't a rooster who would only crow every once in a while. He literally crowed from the second he saw daylight (which, in the summer, is EARLY) until 9-10am. He'd crow constantly, only stopping to take breaths, for hours and hours every morning. We didn't want the neighbors to hate us, so we rehomed him :(

First, :welcome .. to all the new peeps! Hallerlake - Recently came across this photo of my late Dottie. (photo credit: the one and only dawng!) How I would love another Spitz from you if only they were not so fond of flying. You are so talented at so many things! From breeding groovy chickens to landscape design and heaven knows what all else! I need to have you come over and help me decide where to put a couple new Japanese maples. Maybe lunch here soon? FirewifeJess - such a cute photo of the muddy little ones! I can't believe it took this long for the BCM to grow some feathers on her behind. Has she no shame? When you wrote that your "Willow" flew over the creek, would that be my Willow? She must love your yard! Farmin Momma - the other day your teeth were giving you so much trouble. (Nothing like tooth pain!) Are you feeling better? Chicken Rustler - I think we all miss your brudder from a different mudder. Where you hiding, RonB? speaking of hiding - where's just bugged? Who is leading the night crew? mikeyb - love the music! I turned it up good and loud! I am so ready for spring! (This photo is from a few years ago.)
Thank you for asking. Yes today I am much better. The worst part is that it comes and gos all the time and I never know when it will start. But DH demaded that we take our tax return to a Dentist and get started twards all my teeth being implants. They are more expensive than dentures but I already have insecurity issues and am not sure my self esteem could handle having dentures at the age of 27.

Well.... I lost a hen tonight :-( as far as I can tell, she prolapsed this evening. She seemed normal up till 4pm, then i went inside to make dinner. When I went out at 7:30 to close the coop, I was missing a bird in my head count. After looking with the flashlight, I found her. She had just fallen over and died....

Just a bummer...

After reading about prolapse's i am Wondering how concerned I need to be that they might not be getting enough calcium.... The have oyster shells available in the coop.... But I have only had these guys for an out 2.5 weeks.....would adding buttermilk help supplement the calcium?

I hate feeling ignorant :-(

The one I lost was a barred rock

Sorry for the loss, I got no advice on prolapse.

I too have a sick girl, one of the Silkies appears to have a blockage in her digestive tract. Crop is full of liquid, no food. I gave them some small ham pieces yesterday, that is the only new thing. I got some EVOO into her, she did throw some back up. I have her in a storage tub for the night. If she makes it through, she has a chance, but it is not looking too good.

Ok, that's what I figured, just wanted to make sure I won't be doing future kiddos a dis-service.

Does anybody sell Orpington, Barred Rock, or Australorp chicks around here? Does anybody have experience with any of these three being more broody? (should this be going in a different forum?)

I had two Australorps go broody last summer. they were great moms. can't remember what kind or how many chicks they hatched. I borrow the fertile eggs

I had a broody hen in June, July, Aug, Sept. and Oct and 17 chicks at one time.

Hey I think I see my twinn brudder by a different mudder lurking out there !!!

He was a Brabanter/Spitzhauben. If you're interested, I have an extra Spitz cockerel I've been saving for someone who doesn't seem to be interested anymore.

I'm not sure if you are offering to Jessica or me, but I will pass.... I am feeling dumb enough as it is with my current learning curve without adding a roo to the pot. Plus, I am not sure I am ready for the audio ;-) Jess's roo sure was pretty though.
