YEEEEEE HAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those look so amazing! If those were also egg free I would trade a hen for em! lol...Hi peeps![]()
just popping in to say HOWDY. I've got a sick kiddo here, and have my hands full. Besides that, I ran errands all day and spent the evening baking birthday treats.
I baked GF/CF/SF coconut flour cupcakes and make a dairy free chocolate frosting for them that turned out terrific. (FYI-Trader Joe's has organic powdered sugar that does not contain corn starch, for those avoiding GMO). They are all packed up in the frig, waiting to woo my son's friends tomorrow. I was going to use a mix, to make life simpler, but PCC Market didn't have even ONE GF/CF cake mix that was a regular flavor. Then I could not find my decorating supplies, so I used a ziploc with the corner cut off to frost the cupcakes.
My kiddo has a nose running like niagara falls, and we're hoping we can get it dried up enough to enjoy his guys night out tomorrow night.
I've got a 2nd coop all set up with it's own run, and it's ready for more chickens, but we're striking out lately on finding birds for a decent price. Question- what do you all think a person should pay for a non-show quality bird that is just used for eggs? I see people trying to sell hens on Craigslist for $25 and I think that's ridiculous, even if they have fed all organic feed.
The In-cool-bator is just about dialed in, almost have it perfect, or thought we did, but am now getting 2 different readings. On the bread thermometer, it's reading 98.6 (we wrapped a thawed freezer gel-pack around the thermometer) and the air temp on the new indoor/outdoor thermometer with probe was measuring 100.1. Which thermometer would you beleive?

So sorry to hear about that Travis.Teriyaki, the Buff Silkie pullet, passed over night. Lesson learned for me, smaller meat pieces for the chicks.![]()
That is awesome what you have done for her and her mom. As a single mom of a horse lover, you just made that girls dream come true! I enjoy the rambles...Sorry I haven't been on here in awhile. I have been having my old riding student out here for the last week or so. We ended up giving her a horse of ours because she has been the only one that this horse likes and trusts. If she comes out and helps me around our 5 acres and works the horse than she can have the horse and in return we will continue to house the horse and feed it. My student is only 15 and her mom cant afford a horse for her right now. So for the time being, she gets a horse and her mom doesn't have to pay anything for itHanna, my student, will probably stay out here with us for the summer once we get the spare bedroom cleaned up. As for the chickens, I pretty much have almost all of them spoken for. Everyone is wanting pullets but if they take pullets, they get a cockerel as well ;-) the only way I can get rid of the cockerels unless I want to deal with people that don't speak English because I don't speak Spanish...lol. Someone is wanting 4 or 5 pullets so they will get a cockerel with those. a neighbor wants a couple pullets and a cockerel and someone is going to trade us a pair of turkeys for 3 pullets and cockerel. Ive decided that I will only keep 10 hens even though I want 12. Right now, I have 9 that are laying and my tenth one is a pullet from November's batch. She is so cute. She looks like a Dalmatian. If we find people that are wanting chickens, we may hatch out a couple batches but they will all go in the brooder/rabbit hutch with momma when they are first hatched since they will already be sold before coming out of the shell pretty much
Anyways, Ive rambled enough....![]()

Congrats on rehoming almost all of them! I'd take a cockerel if I didn't live in the darn city.
Sorry if I missed anything, y'all are on a steam train with this thread!

You'll need more than you think you will. I totally screwed up my left elbow/wrist doing rock work and shoveling, so be careful! I should have just paid for a pallet delivered, it would have been a lot less work overall so possibly wouldn't have hurt myself, who knows. You're a lot younger than me thoughThis is exactly what I want: http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/mat/3587442584.html Although I'm also totally willing to pay $280 for that...it's a pretty good price!
My head still thinks I'm able to do things that my body obviously can't recover from. I have aged more in the last year than I have in the last 20 years before that, it seems. Quote:
Basically we're willing to pay about $400 for the project. I hope I can get mine looking like yours though, how nice! Right now I walk through muddy grass to get eggs every day, or go into the run. It's annoying. Would love a path! There's really only grass around where I'll be putting the stone, so hopefully they won't have too much to scratch over the pathway, but my hose will reach so I can just hose it off occasionally.
Also...you're not that much older than me, and I'm WAY broken. I have pretty severe spine and nerve problems in my neck and arms and can't do the work either. We'll have to have something delivered for sure. Love the picture!
I'm almost 40. Aren't you in your 20's still?Quote:

Did you put any sort of sand or layer down under your path? Mine's not entirely level so we though of lining/filling in holes with sand before we lay down the path.
. I wasn't fishing for compliments, I swear. But it's nice to hear
. I have had some help. Lol. And I swear I looked 14 until I had kids. That's a very cool thing that you're doing for Hanna! It's something she'll take with her forever and not just the horse. You're teaching her that if she works hard she can get or do just about anything. Best of all your teaching her how to help others and that you don't always have to get big bucks in return. People with good hearts are hard to come by!!!
Thanks for Ramblin
