Clever girls. I think that soil distribution is the only way that chickens can be legitimately helpful in the garden. However, they think that it's a job appropriate for all areas of the garden, so they remain pests.![]()

Funny how going to church uses up every minute of extra time on the weekend. It's not that we're irreligious: it's more than my husband was a preacher's kid and feels as if he's put in his hours, and it's not my discipline, so I sit in the pews and wrestle with my conscience a lot.
I did buy a cage for the BdA's, smaller than the one on Amazon and also much less expensive. They have a bit more room, and I'm probably going to be putting them out in the dog kennel that was Malvina's house until I built the broody pen during our frequent non-horrible weather days, yeah, right and keeping them in the small cage at night.
One thing I'm glad for this time of year is that you can feed mammals at night; Baaachus gets his dinner far past sundown, and is fine with it, especially since he gets oatmeal and an apple then. He is not the single most spoiled sheep on the planet, right? Somewhere, somehow, there's a sheep that sleeps in a carpeted, airconditioned room and gets fed pears all the time. (Baaachus is still sure I am just keeping the pears from him. My explanations that all the pears are long gone is not acceptable to him whatsoever). I'm going to have to start buying apples, anyway, since even the Grime's Goldens and Esopus Spitzenburgs are nearly gone. The cows will be louder in protest, but I do not have the budget to buy apples for cows.
I want to get fencing in and get a couple goats and sheep. I've been jonesing for some Jacob sheep for 13+ years. I just love their spots and horns.
I played with the pygmy goats as a kid all the time. The goats were pets.
I wasn't allowed to do much with grandpa's sheep. I helped feed lambs, but none of the adults were tame. I love wool. Even the coarse stuff feels great to me. Always wanted to learn to spin, but fleeces were sold so I only ever was able to play with dog hair from my aunt's samoyeds.
It must take a lot of guts to be that first singer.Hopefully this one works.........................
Quote: Baaachus is a two-horned Jacob; if you're sure you want Jacobs the woman I bought him from (a friend of mine since preschool) should have lambs for sale in June.
Each spring I drool over the jacob lamb for sale pictures different farms have up. They are so dang adorable as lambs. I've read, researched, and talked to family about getting sheep for years. They are a big part of the reason we looked for somewhere I could have a few. I wanted chickens, sheep, and a couple goats.
DH likes the two horned ones best. He loves the big spiral on rams.
I have to get fencing up before we get anything.
For shelter I'm either going to wall in part of the carport behind the chicken coop (so I can run power out for light in winter), or convince DH that we should get some dirt and fill in the low area that puddles in front of the big metal back top half of a delivery truck that's sitting out there (to far to run power). I'm leaning towards behind the coop.
So cute! Glad you had a fun visit and it sounds like you are feeling better.Greg Very nice thanks for the share.
I am quite behind. IF by remote chance anybody needs to get a hold of me just ask somebody here to PM ya my cell/text #.
Yesterday DW and I had the great pleasure of spending the better part of the day with T Hi and her awesome DD who will be celebrating a significant birthday tomorrow. We got to meet their new little family member Dyson. He is just such a bundle of joy. While there I helped Toni put up some lighting for the back yard and also helped her put up outdoor Christmas lights.
It really made for a long day since we left home at 9:30 and didn't get home until midnight but it was such a fun day and a great visit (so worth the long day). Since we were celebrating Toni's bday a little late and her DD's a little early I took a little food stuff for a little "mini" party.
BTW Dyson? Is their recently acquired Aussie pup.
