Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

In sad news today, I had to euthanize the silkie chick with wry neck. She was losing weight, and still severely affected with head wobbles. She kept walking backwards and would end up on her toes in a corner of her box with her head on the ground. I had to put her water bowl along a wall after she nearly drowned in it (it's a tiny sauce dish, but she somehow soaked her whole head in it). She's not suffering anymore, and none of the others are showing any problems, other than dirty rumps that need bathing.

I'm so sorry...

I think they are all cute and can not make up my mind on what to get next.

Looks like the rain and dreary days are getting to us. Just remember, it is only a few months away from these beautiful weeds. Spring will come again.

Totally love that photo! The focus and blur couldn't be more perfect!

(like my techinal jargon?)

I've been looking a pretty chicken pictures again and I've really taken a liking to the white birds that have a bit of black like Delawares, Lakenvelders, Brahamas. There are just way too many pretty chickens out there and too little space to raise them at my house!

Oh, more to look forward to! LOL Looks like I'll be using the big roll of welded wire fencing I've had socked away in my shed. I'll have to see if it is better used on the flower beds or just on the chickens. My girls in the pen are really itching to get out, even in the rainy weather. I had to pick two of them up and put them back in because shutting the door on their toes just wasn't making my point. I can't really blame them, the pen is disgusting! It's so wet, the French drain was backed up under 4" of water. As soon as the coop is in place and I can remove the brooder from the pen, I'm going to scoop out the top couple inches of pea gravel and replace it.

I had a helper in the garage tonight, too. I think she approves of the coop!

She sat up there the whole time I was painting the egg box wall inside the coop. The silkie just stood around on the floor next to her. I like how easily they get used to me. The Polish has now wandered all over the inside of the garage, and she keeps choosing to stay by my side.

Hmm, I really need to come up with a name for her....

Paint is done on the frame and egg box wall. Also finished painting the floor of the cabinet and the underside of the coop floor (which will have vinyl on top). I started painting the inside walls of the sheathing, but I ran out of white paint and didn't have time to paint the ones that need grey. Oh well, Lamont can start building the roof while I am painting. There is plenty more to be done, and it needs to be finished in a week!

I've been watching your progress with this coop, and I'm really impressed with what you've done. You've really taken the time to do an outstanding job! Mine is functional and not bad to look at, but nothing like this. Way to go!

I vote to name her Polly (the Polish). :)

I'm so sorry to hear that Jenn. I know a lot of us were pulling for her, hoping her condition would improve.

Lovely photo of the terrible invasive thug Geranium robertianum, which common names (Herb Robert or Stinking Robert, Death come-quickly, Bloodwort and Cuckoo's eye) are... uniquely dissaproving.

You've truly spun dross into gold, there.

hallerlake and my younger sister (who are within a week of being the same age and an inch of the same tall height) both think I'm short, but my cousin the Berkeley Professor, at 4'11" thinks I'm a giant. I like LF and Bantams, and most combs (I think walnut combs look like coral) but lack enthusiasm for Silkies, the horrible droopy combs of white Leghorns, and all feather-footed breeds except Brahmas. The one thing I cannot abide is Showgirls and indeed any Naked Necks, because they look like Zombie Chickens to me. Also feel that a life without at least one cat and one dog would be empty indeed, although having very old dogs and young cats in the same small house is not the optimal combination.

And now I need to go take my insulin, get dressed, and go out to bale out the sheep's roof, again: apparently the high winds and heavy rain alternated last night, as when it's windy and raining at the same time I don't have these problems :he

Quote: Thanks for identifying this for me. I figured it was in the geranium family but had not pinpointed it. I had so much of this on my property when I returned to our property. Roundup was a blessing. I hope I don't get it back this year as bad.
