Yep I'm sure. Originally I thought they were supposed to have red feathers, too. But over the past year I've spent a lot of time talking to various breeders and reading about which crosses create sex links. It's common to have a pure black BSL pullet especially when a Black Australorp is used.

Oh, so it's a different kind than the BR/RIR cross? Interesting.

Yeah I just did a bunch of research and never once came across that type of cross; I am pretty set on having some Black Sex Links next spring and only found info on RIR rooster/ Barred Rock hen crosses. Didn't see anything about using an Australorp. Would that be a hen australorp then, not a roo?

How about some new peeps? I am so excited one of our black sex links started incubating her eggs about 5 days ago. We will be out of town on expected hatch date, I dunno if/ how many of the eggs are even fertilized. Guess We will find out when we get back. In the meantime as a percaution I will section off a portion of the run for her and her possible peeps.

We have both 3 GSL & 3 BSL, also 1 remaining Australorp, 2 Americauna/Bantams, and 3 CornishX hens.

Welcome!! How fun on your new broody. How long will you be gone after day 20-21 of incubation? You may want to provide chick feed (enough for mama too) and a waterer for the babies and mama to share until you get back! I am DYING for one of my girls to go broody this coming spring, I hope we can get some new flock members that way!

My neighbor will be watching over them, I plan on using the feeder I used when on our ladies were pullets with the starter feed. I am assuming I have to go back to the begining waterer so the new chicks (if any) won't fall in. The others will just have to share the 1 feeder pan and 2 water pans. We'll only be gone 9 days but that's a long time to wait to see what's going on.

Today at 3:30, a man with an assault rifle walked into Clackams Town Center's food court and opened fire. At least 1 confirmed dead and several injured. Shooter has been neutralized. Prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Just read that a little while ago. How horrible.

I saw security video of a 71 y/o man who chased away 2 robbers at an internet cafe in FL with his legally concealed weapon. Loved seeing those d-bags on the run!!!!

I have to side with everyone else and go with sexlinks.  I love my black sexlink.  She's a very chatty friendly thing.  I think they are very attractive with their red feathers on the face and chest.  And that hawk face!  I have a golden sexlink who likes to creep up behind me and stab me in the back of the knee to show her affection.  She is seven and only recently stopped laying.

My BSL looks exactly like a Black Australorp but smaller.  No red anywhere, just the green black feathers of an aussie.  She's not the egg laying machine some people have, but she's very reliable and super friendly.  And super soft.

Well I don't know what happend,, but I went out this morning to check on the girls, one hen that I hatched back in April was sitting on the coop floor. It was no biggy untill I noticed that her legs were laying straight out behind her and that her comb is partly missing with blood runn8n down her beak! I picked her up and she can not move her legs. I am probably gonna have to cull her. I don't have any clue as to what did this to her.

How secure is your coop? Any other birds with any injuries? How far off floor is the roost? Do you have a rooster with them?
