Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Just popping in to say hello! I have been lurking off and on for the past little bit. Just trying to keep my sanity throught the holidays.
I don't do things extravagently but I have a hard time with the crowds and the traffic during the holidays. Then there is work, wich is extremely busy and will be even busier next week before we take a break for Christmas and New Years. I am grateful that I am employed, so I try not to complain too often.

Going to meet up with Honeysucklehills tomorrow to give her the feed I picked up last weekend at the Bothell feed center sale. It will be good to see her.

Hope you all are having a good holiday season!

TTYS!

When you two meet up, you should discuss the possibility of a larger North End meet-up! Hallerlake wants to do a meet-up too.

That bird is giving you that look: "No way in Helena are you naming me what I think you want to name me!"
HAH!

I have been calling this chick Kitty. It it turns out to be a male, I'll go with Kit I guess.

I googled crooked toes in chicks and saw an image with the band-aid trick long before this chick was hatched. My mind is a steel trap for minutia like this. I didn't even blink when this late chick hatched a complete double cripple. This chick adapted immediately to a little duck walk with these boots. Bantam chicks only a few hours old are incredibly fragile. Even though I soaked the feet in olive oil, I had to be extremely gentle in getting these on and off. Would have been easy to dislocate a hip or damage the toes permanently. I will always keep an assortment of children's Hello Kitty band-aids in my first aid barn kit. Simple solution that worked and caused no pain.

Clumber, Let me know when you get an incubator and we can work out the details. If you are going to be getting one soon(like in next few weeks) I can start giving the extra light in the coop to get them laying more consistently again(I have it off right now). Let me know, I like enabling chicken math.

Will do! Thanks!
Lots of things up in the air currently. My stupid health issues this year (2013 is welcome to come early, I am really done with '12) have messed things up, and my employer of 6+ years has been screwing with me about it. That's modern loyalty I guess. Have big hopes that the new year with new health insurance provider with new medical teams will end or at least control the health crap and we can return to our merry normal crazy life! I should really Google up some "remove curses" traditions to cover my bases.... Got some dried sage to cleanse the house. Don't care one way or the other if it's 'real', I am happy enough with a ceremony ending the past year's bad luck and satisfied with placebo effects!

We are really looking forward to hatching some of your eggs! Neither of us has watched hatching since grade school (and I am only a couple months from 45...) or the Puyallup Fair in the Poultry barn.

It doesn't take a lot. A bit of milkfat makes it taste so good. If you're watching your fat intake, you can use milk. Cream makes the best, though. It's just so easy to make potato soup when you're not really up to cooking to much. I make a big pot and we eat it for a couple days.

Hey, can someone point me to some plans for making a solar a/o marine battery power source so we can end having an extension cord coming out a window into the poultry yard? I have visions of our house burning down everytime I see the set-up, and now Spouse is going to build a waterer heater so I am getting twitchy. As a DIY-er I am pretty brave but absolutely awful with ad hoc building. I need a set of plans to work from. Illustrations ideal!

Much thanks in advance!

[Sigh... tonight I glanced over at our boy puppy sitting with me and he suddenly has an adult looking face. WHERE DID MY PUPPY GO!!?

You'd think that by this 4th generation of our own breeding I'd get used to that sudden transformation... but nooooooooo!]

Flit as he looks tonight
(sorry for the phone camera) Flit as I will probably always think of him : Or even...

Checking out the pigeon pen when he was still smaller than them!
