Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

If you have a specific topic you wish to read about, please head on over to that forum heading and by all means, talk about "raising baby chicks," or incubating eggs, or different breeds, or coop constructions, but this specific thread is not meant to be exclusively poultry related. Even here, however, I've received invaluable information from fellow locals about how to raise my chickens, as well as making some great friends along the way. I'm sorry you feel this way about our WA thread, but don't expect it to change. We are not violating forum posting rules when we have conversations that don't revolve entirely around chickens and we all come back over and over again BECAUSE this thread talks about life, and not just about chickens.

Hey Doc, we do stay on topic. You see it as a forum for chicken fanciers, we see it as much, much more. Recent events and current events lead to discussion amongst adults and we all know this is primarily a chicken forum.
I don't see anyone trying to change the forum format. I see adults interacting with one another and helping one another. If you followed this forum you would know that there are planned meet-ups and impromptu meet ups. Rides and transportation is offered to people, chickens and objects at the drop of a hat, all to the betterment of this forum.
A lot of the posters here are not faceless enities to the others. Many are known to one another and visit when ever the opportunity arises.

Questions are asked and answered and discussed in detail if needed.
I think your fears of this forum spiralling out of control is unfounded.

Also, one is not required to read every post all the way through. If you have problems with a post, just cruise on past and don't think about it any more. I've done it plenty of times.

Honestly, the responses to my request to leave non-poultry related topics for other sites are truly disappointing. Perhaps people need to refer back to the title of this website: "backyardschickens.com" -- and I believe we could easily rally around that content, even when it comes to guns for a means to protect against poultry predators and the like. I am not for or against guns per se, but I am sick and tired of having this issue interfering with just about any forum these days, along with religion, race, etc. etc. The statement that we should all be free to speak our minds misses the point entirely, for strongly held "belief" statements unrelated to our hobby (on these controversial subjects) serve only to alienate and drive away those who want to exchange ideas and experiences regarding poultry. After all, this is a forum for poultry fanciers--not a political outlet. Believe me, I speak from experience as the "gun issue" caused an incredible amount of grief in a poultry club back east, so why not stay on topic?

Sorry DBN,
Some of us have been active posters on this thread for years. We have a diverse variety of opinions, and somehow to manage to only slighly annoy each other, occasionally.
This is a chat thread on a chicken forum, not a chicken thread.
If it weren't for all the varied people here making this a fun and informative thread, it would have died with Napalongtails several years ago.

Russ

perhaps you could join in.

The title of this sub-forum is "Where am I, where are you" in the Social section of the forums, therefore anything can be discussed that does not break the BYC rules of conduct. These nice people on this thread are quickly becoming my friends. It is a great place to talk about family, life and yes sometimes chickens. I agree with Imp, join in and contribute.

Hope you'll stay!

Well, I've got 3 kids in the bath/shower and getting ready for bed. HOping for everyone in bed and asleep before 8 tonight, we really need a good night of sleep after this busy week! Didn't get the coop retrofitted today, hoping for tomorrow. Family time was just way more important than doing coop work today.

I can't wait for Christmas. We're celebrating on Christmas Eve because DH works the 25th this year, but that's OK. All is still well as long as we celebrate the birth of our Savior. The kids are very much enjoying our advent time and memory verses this year; I'm amazed my 6 year old has already memorized all of Luke 20:1-20! He loves our bible time each morning and evening.

Hope everyone is having a great December preparing for Christmas. Tonight I will be wrapping about a whole room full of presents

Ditto.
Yes, Trav, you beat me to it, this is the SOCIAL section of the forum where off-topic conversations are expected and encouraged. And like with any social get-together, if the conversation isn't interesting to you at the moment, take a break and come back later. Like the weather, it's constantly changing. :)

DBN thanks for being so polite, but I think we'll just keep doing what we've been doing all along. So... please feel free to join in any time with whatever opinion you may choose to share.

I have a friend with a very sweet young cockerel she's trying to re-home. He's an Olive Egger, his sisters have started laying olive eggs that are blue on the inside of the shell. She'd rather not take him to the auction if she can find him a nice home.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

ETA: He's currently living near Enumclaw.
