Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Quote: I wish it was that. But this is orthodontics and insurance is already delt with and billed. So that is not it.

Clearly, they're just a bunch of improvident whiners.

OMG! A huge gust just came through. It was very loud on the house when it hit. Then I heard a large BANG and the dogs went off. The wind picked up the free standing dog kennel with the tarp roof and threw it across the front grass about 120 feet. It's now sitting out there upside down until DH gets home and we can carry it back. I knew I should have got those screw in tie downs I was eyeing at Home Depot the other day.

I am so glad I moved the two boys back into the main coop yesterday. It didn't touch the dog house that was in there, but that's like wizard of oz moving.

The silkie pen is fine. It's attached and part of the big run since we made it with the heavy duty kennel panels. Plenty of weight there to keep it down and there is the shed and carport buffering the wind coming at it. The free standing kennel weighs what two of the panels weigh, so it was just to light.

I really need to plant something to disrupt the incoming wind. It blows between the house and shed/carport and just picks up nasty speed. It was one of the high spots is why we put the kennel where we did, but it's to much wind going through apparently.

I've let the trees that have come up along the fence line stay. Willow and Alder. It's wet over there so they are probably the best thing, just not big enough yet. I think I'll define a yard at the edge of the grass where we park and put in some tall bushes. That will be my extras I buy this coming year. Bushes and trees. Maybe a lattice fencing.

I've got some gold stemmed willows. Would you like some slips when I trim them in February? Willows take so easily. All you'd have to do is stick them in the ground.

I'd love some. Willows are quite forgiving and the gold stemmed ones are interesting in winter.

We'll touch base again in February. I got mine from twigs I picked up off the ground at Greenlake.

Is this the Gold Willow you're talking about? They are beautiful. Huge, too. When you first mentioned them I was thinking of something more like a Red or Yellow Twig Dogwood, what a difference!

I also wanted to mention.... Gorgeous Needlepoint project. Will it be a wall hanging or something else?

I picked up my Rott bull pup from the Longview shelter yesterday. She's eight weeks at the oldest and has the cutest wrinkley face. Last night she fell asleep on my foot while I was making mac and cheese.

Our neighbors have a fence that's about to completely fall into our yard. It worries me - because if it goes down, it could go down on my birds who love to dig in the garden bed just below it. It has been 13 years since I first asked if we could go half-sies on that fence and replace it because it was so worn out 13 years ago. I want to switch it out to chain link, too - just because it will help give my garden beds more light. I'm not keen on staring at the stuff that they store on their side yard, but having more light would be great. I have a feeling it's going to have to fall and damage our yard before we'll ever convince them to replace it. The other neighbors around them had to wait for those other three fences to fall before they got replaced. The one between our yards is the remaining tired, old strip of wood fencing. I tried to get them to agree to it over the summer again - but still wasn't successful. There's one section that I would be surprised if it continues standing, and that is the section that my big girls hang out in the most.
