Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Quick note - I have personally witnessed an opossum (is it 'a' or 'an' ??) reach into our pigeon pen, grab a low roosting pigeon, and chomp its head right off. Once I recovered my jaw from the concrete where it had fallen, I gently squeezed the trigger. I'd been setup on a blanket under my car with my varmint air rifle doing my rat sniping. I'd had no idea opossums could/would grab a pigeon that fast. Too bad for Ms. Opossum that night.

We didn't mind the pigeon hawk that came by and would relieve us of a pigeon every couple months, in fact we named her Toni. (Get it? Toni Hawk? No?... tough crowd...) We figured that was just COB, but we were losing a pigeon every other day or so to the opossum. At the time those things were costing us about $7 a piece!

Anyhow, yes at least 1 opossum bit the heads off pigeons and would leave most of the rest.

Here is just what somebody needs. Perfect for egg storage or make your own incubator. I would be all over this if I was closer. Come to think of it..... just may be a good thing I am not close. I am starting to have some real issues with hatchitus !!!

Getting rid of the refrigerator, it works, was using it for overflow goods. It's an older model, but it's free. Leave your phone number, I'll give you a call back. As is of course.

Well I have come to find out that the ”momma” hen that I thought was ripped out of the nest while being broody the other day, in fact was not the one taken! She must have taken off to hide. Because she is back and still broody! So even though I have chicks coming soon and didn't really want any more mutt chicks, I can not deny her babies. She escaped death, and is still determined to once again be a mom!
I gave her some eggs from my, EE, E Leg Horn, RIR & BR. Dads are eather EE or RIR.
Yeah for babies!

OK I am looking for a relay!!!! I am trying to get one of my pig planters relayed from just south of Chehalis to the Portland OR area. I am trying to do this before Christmas but may have to wait until after. Anybody going that way soon. I could meet right at I-5. I am not sure of a meet point in Portland area.

IF you can help PLEASE PM, e-mail or text if you have my cell.

Hey Greg At risk of getting myself in trouble. Is it time yet for your annual Christmas story?? while some of us have seen it MANY times I must say that I always enjoy it and we have many new peeps that may not have had the pleasure of reading it. And before anybody goes getting all freaked about it being religious ...... The closest it gets is the time of year it is set in. IF one DOES NOT believe in helping others then DO NOT read it when Greg (hopefully) posts it.

Well - we have a hawk.

Frodo is in the garage recovering from an attack. I don't know if she'll make it, one eye is bloody and she is partially scalped. No pictures, it's just too graphic.

I don't think I can get anymore bantams. I love them so but don't want to sentence them to death!

It's a small hawk - coopers hawk possibly? I don't think it can take my LF chickens - but I don't have a lot of experience.

CR. I just got done posting it on my other boards and was bringing it here and before posting something I always read the posts first and I see yours. WOW!
Thanks so much for remembering!

Some background on the story.................
I was looking for something else about ten years ago and ran into this story and been posting it ever since.
I read it every year to remind myself the impact we can have on others.

No idea if the story is true or who wrote it never found that out.

The Father in it reminds me of my own whom when he was alive he gave when he had hardly much to give himself.
Reminds me a lot of my Dad and what he taught me over the years.

I made the decision long ago even though I know the outcome of the story I need to read it anyways so I don't forget how we can not only help others but watch the impact on ourselves when we give.
It's a win win!

I'm sorry :( That's so scary. We have a hawk or something that hangs out above the chickens lately~It just sits and watches. I think my hens are too big for him to take except the araucana. Crows usually let me know when it's around:
