Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I'm off to urgent care to get help for me and WIlliam. I'm still sick as a dog and William has a 104.9 degree fever again. That's playing it a little too close to 105 for my own comfort, and I'm totally not a worrier at all. I think I now have a sinus infection on top of the flu. BOO.
Sorry to hear, Jess, and hope both of you are much better soon!

Dawn, so happy to hear that Frodo is doing so much better!

I just did a feed experiment and let the girls completely finish off a bag of feed before opening the next, and then recorded the date. Usually I don't care, but I've been wondering how much my little porky girls are eating lately. It took exactly 21 full days for my 12 girls to eat a 50lb bag of layer feed. That's with them free ranging MOST days, with only being cooped in the run for 2 of those days. Not too bad IMO. That's 75lbs of feed a month for a dozen laying hens. That means my eggs are costing $27/mo (from feed NOT on sale...but we always get it on sale) and we used to pay more than that for eggs every month anyway. Woot! FINALLY making some money back on these gals! I can't wait for summer so I can start selling excess eggs too!

Wow! That's a lot of feed. I'm still on my 3rd 50-lb. bag of "Layer" feed. We've also gone through 2-and-a-half bags of chick feed. I'm beginning to feel the impact of going through feed now though with all the littles I have right now. They eat a lot! My big girls still prefer to eat grass and hunt for bugs because they'd rather not be in their run where their food is. I finally broke down and put food inside their coop each night just to make sure they are eating enough. I can't complain - we've gone through less than 6 bags of feed since we got chickens last April.

Are frozen eggs safe to thaw and OK to eat? I forgot yesterday's eggs in the basket again - and it froze last night. Grrrrrr.

Not sure if they froze inside the shell. I would just feed them back to the chickens in this case.
