Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hey there Washingtonians! I am new to this thread but I've been lurking for a long time. :) I am wondering if anyone in Washington/oregon has Swedish Flower hens? I would love to hatch a few of these beauties in the spring and was hoping to get local eggs so I don't have to ship them. I am in the snohomish area but I am willing to drive. I was hoping to find lots of hatching eggs at the WFF show in March but I thought I should start lining up my rare breeds beforehand.

I'm also looking for Faverolles.

Please let me know if you have either of these breeds.
thank you!!!

Hi Lindsay!

Cloverleaf, in Oregon, has Faverolles. While I do not have any myself, I have heard nothing but good things about them.

We're not exactly sure, but we're pretty sure it was a rat. There's a small hole in the coop big enough for one to fit through that we've been meaning to patch up. It tried to take the girls with them but couldn't fit them through the hole.
If there is a hole, I wonder if it might have been a weasel. They are notorious for getting chickens, I've heard.

Hope you don't have to go thru that again!!!

We've only had a couple snows here so far. It was so much fun having a white Christmas, which doesn't happen very often. Neither of the snows lasted long, but it was sure funny to watch the chickens freak over it! It seems they thought the sky was falling!!!! We all went out to play and have snowball fights on Christmas and 2 of my hens got "trapped" under the motorhome! We had to flush them out as they were reluctant to walk in the inch of snow!!! I guess seeing such a sight for the first time in your life can be somewhat freaky!

Oh, nice, nice. Did I ever tell you that one of my earliest chores was sitting under the quilting frame when the Yelm Orthopedic Guild was working and pushing dropped needles back up through the pattern? I was five, or possibly four, when I got trained for that; it may have a lot to do with my insane sewing standards AND with the tendinitis in my right hand.

I don't use sand on the floor, but I do use sand in a dust bath bin.  When it is dry I mix DE into that bin in hopes the birds will get DE mixed into their feathers.  My chickens don't use it to dust bathe, they'd rather tear up the floor of the run, but they do love to sleep in it, as long as it is not wet.

If the sand gets wet, it clumps, and gets heavy.  If you put it in a drawer, I'd make sure the drawer is very sturdy.

Where do you get your DE?
