Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

oh, I never thought of that. Probably because it all looks like meat to me.

The last wild rabbits we butchered (after hunting) were so thin, and stringy and NO MEAT and full of worms.......no thankyou.
Leave them for the coyotes.

rabbits stink much worse then chickens, but are so easy to clean. skinning a freshly killed rabbit on a scale of 1 - 10 is a......10. easy-peasy.
fried rabbit, yum.
A wet, just dipped in the scald pot nasty broiler stinks far worse than my gorgeous rabbits ever did.
Never did my rabbits stink, not their fur nor innards.
A wet chicken........................................................................................

My hellebores have buds down at ground level. It will be a while before they bloom. I have the H. orientalis, not the H. niger which blooms earlier. I've never had any luck with the H. niger.
I have the fall blooming cyclamen and the winter blooming C. coum. They're just starting to bloom now. They're running late this year.
Maybe because up until now it has been so warm ?

I'm hoping to have flowers growing as well as a veggie garden this year. When Elmer and I got together, I moved in with him and this place was a bachelor pad. Clean and tidy but no color or personality. Apparently, that's my job ;-) gonna start simple with some roses and couple wine barrel planters along the deck with good hardy flowers. My veggie garden will be a decent size though. Probably 24x24ft. We want corn, tomatoes, pumpkins, radishes, peppers, and whaever else we can think of. And all the scraps will be going to Whiski and his girls for them to munch on. Very soon, I will be planting a sugar peas. They go into their pot on the deck on Washington's birthday (something my Gramma taught me)
How wonderful that you two are together, and you get to garden !
My peas will not go in for a few months....but I am high on seed catalogs !!!
Fills the winter months, with graph paper on what will go where...I also have just purchased 2 Fig trees, dwarfs, to be in large pots and hopefully do well here on the coast.
Whatever ya do in life, always pay attention to your Gramma !

Once I'm feeling better (had oral surgery this morning) I'm gonna have my man help me get the veggie garden started. Never had one here so we will be planting ours out back and move all the old steer manuer over to the veggie spot and till it in. And then line the garden with railroad ties to slightly raise it. Does anyone have any ideas on keeping my chickens out of it this summer? I can see them tearing it up and eating everything...lol my chickens can go over tall fences. I don't clip their wings because I want them to be able to get up high in case of danger. They use to roost in my trees by the horse arena before we built their coop nd run last fall. If they are getting enough to eat, will they stay away from the garden if I put a simple fence around it?
yes, I do

Well, I am thinking it is not that. She just pooped twice in the last 30 minutes(more than all day) and she has undigested grass in it. I think it was blocking her digestive tract. Gonna give her some more EVOO in a couple of hours.

This is where I have been getting a lot of great info and help from. Warning, that thread moves faster than this one.

ETA: Impacted gizzard is rare, unlike impacted crop. But you can treat both the same pretty much. I only thought the gizzard because her crop was not full and bulging.
Try EVOO + Molasses

Phooey on Chickens - I have Levains!

Yup, and I only have to feed them once a week at the most, and I can take them out when I want to admire them, and they cost very little to keep and not much floor (refrigerator) space required. Right now I have a Camaldoli, a CarolynF and a New Hampshire , but there are more waiting for activation. Got to get over this bout of flu and then there's no stopping me. Sadly, they only come in one colour!

Hi to you too Robin!

We got to get together sooner rather than later, 'cus later might be just too late. House is looking great. Are ya gonna miss the mower mansion - are you going to turn it into a coop, or leave it as a memorial ?
