Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Our two goofy nipple waterers that we are using with the chicks. They work great! One hangs at each end.

Hi Heartsamor in Graham!! I am in Tacoma and am right with you as a first timer :)
Welcome to BYC, there are some WONDERFUL people on this thread!!

CarolynF, I am very interested in talking with my local BYC friends and getting some chicks. I am *finally* ready to bring some home

I would like each one to be different though, do you think this would be a problem? I can only have 4-5 hens (6 is the city limit and my coop is only 17.5sq ft). I guess I have read so much about quarantine I am nervous to get a bunch of chicks from different places...any thoughts? I originally wanted Mottled Cochin, Red Shouldered Yokohama, GLPolish, Buff Orp and Silkie, but I don't know anyone who has talked about the yokohamas on here. I guess a few Marans and EE would be a good place to start? These will be for eggs, and meat if they need to be culled because they are roos or evil or what-not.

Still looking for fertile eggs that can be brought to me. I have little money. I have a $10 gift card to grocery outlet (given to me from the owner of the one up here) yeah I'm that broke. LOl they took pitty on me. My van is out of gas. My husband has been out sick for 2 weeks. I just wanna cry. But my eggs are a week from hatching. I want to start some more eggs in the back up incubator. Anyone in the area that can meet very close to my place like at point defiance elementary. I would love to get some fertile eggs. Mixed breed, preferably standard sized.

Also opinions for Tacoma area is it warm enough to put my chick in the garage under a 40 watt bulb? It was hatched just before x-mas. It is now stinky, and mostly feathered. I don't want to put it outside yet but wondering if it's to cold for it to be in the garage? I rather it be out there where I keep the hay, chicken feed, and all that. So that the smell isn't as bad, not as closed off as an area and the chicken can slowly get use to cooler weather.

Hi Sweetlilbaby, I am in your neck of the woods and am shopping around for chicks. If there is anyone out there who can fit both of our needs, i would be happy to deliver your fertile eggs when I get some chicks?

If you get all of them at 1 or 2 day old chicks, no need to quarantine. Mixing is fine, just check out breed temperaments before mixing them. Some breeds tend to be meaner than others, and some tend to be extremely timid. If they are raised together from chicks on, they will probably be OK.
