agreed. Though...I got a group of 12 day olds and then 10 days later got 3 more day olds and threw them in with everyone else. They did totally fine all together.
Also opinions for Tacoma area is it warm enough to put my chick in the garage under a 40 watt bulb? It was hatched just before x-mas. It is now stinky, and mostly feathered. I don't want to put it outside yet but wondering if it's to cold for it to be in the garage? I rather it be out there where I keep the hay, chicken feed, and all that. So that the smell isn't as bad, not as closed off as an area and the chicken can slowly get use to cooler weather.
Garage is fine. I really don't know if a 40-watt bulb would be warm enough for a chick that hatched just before Christmas. I guess it depends on how cold your garage gets.
I have 7-weekers that are still under a heat lamp in the garage. Our garage gets pretty cold, esp. at night. The lamp is not down close to the brooder - but above it to keep the general area warmer. They hatched Dec 9. I tend to be an overly cautious chicken-momma though. Others here would probably be able to give you a more realistic idea if that would be OK or not.
ETA: I'm in the Auburn area.

Do you want a BCM boy? I have 3 or 4 of them! Not exactly sure how many. The boys will be sold. The one that I thought was a girl because of the small comb is growing copper feathers on the neck. Don't know if that's a bad sign or not.

Enablers are people who help you exercise the process of chicken math. I started out with 3 and met the great enabler Chicken Rustler who rustled some chickens and enabled me to grow a small flock to 15.![]()
Oh my gosh!! How adorable!!!! Look at that last pic, what an attitude! lol!
