Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I got a great new big enough coop for $75 on Craigslist! I'm so excited.

It is new bare wood--what should I treat it with to make it last in the rain? I have it in the garage right now to keep it dry until I can paint it or whatever. Should I put anything on the roof?

I'm going to build external nest boxes and put a clean out door on the back. Half of the roof comes off for cleaning but it's heavy. It needs a latch on the door and rungs on the ladder.

yay!

If you have any/will have soon day-old chicks from these various breeds, please IM me!! I am looking for 4-6 pullets. I will take your roosters, but I will have you know, they will be dinner.

Black Copper Maran
Exchequer Leghorn
German Spitzhauben
Golden Laced Polish
Golden Spangled Hamburg
Blue Splash Maran
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Buff Silkie
Buff/Blue/Splash Orpington
Mottled Cochin
Partridge Silkie
Red Shouldered Yokohama
Easter Egger

ETA - around the South Sound - Tacoma area

If I don't get a response I will be ordering from Ideal or Dunlap, so you can message me if you are looking at ordering chicks, if we order them together, it's a much better deal. I will deliver between Tacoma and Kent when they arrive, so let me know...
The correct term is Appenzeller Spitzhauben. They were originally from Switzerland. I will be hatching some this spring.

Exterior grade paint should do it.

Hostas are beautiful, and I actually had some in Iowa, and they survived me

I am worried about my container sizes, I have 10 4"x14" square rectangle pots. Sadly, I think the hostas would want more room than I can offer. I have seen mint though, and I bet it is about the right size!
Hostas come in enormous, medium, and mini sizes.

Which one...the one I listed as German?? I just got the name from a hatchery web-site. Are you near Tacoma? When do you hatch...around March-April?

Mini hostas? Oh, those sound nice!

That is awesome!! SO happy for you!!! Exterior house paint should seal it nice, or you can use a deck stain if you like the wood look

so sorry to miss dinner tonight with all of you; it would be fun to meet. Alas, I work til 7pm, so not going to work this time.

My chicks are coming the week of Feb 18, so am getting very excited. Darling man does not really know how many are coming;
won't he be surprised, LOL. Guess I shouldn't talk about numbers, since we do live inside a city limit. They are coming from a hatchery
that also send a free surprise "rare" chick, which I am guessing that will be a roo for sure. I feel like a kid at Christmas!

Just looked around on Craigslist, it doesn't appear like there are many chicks in my area

I might have to make a trip to Rochester!!! (or maybe the breeders in Rochester will be making a trip to the sound??)

Does anybody know who has the mottled cochins down there in Rochester?? They are my favorite!

It's just not quite the season Audie. You could begin checking feed stores and CL again in 2 months and the market will be flooded with chicks. I LOVE Seattle Farm Supply. He's getting a shipment in from Cackle Hatchery on the 12th.
