I'm learning way more by reading and asking questions on here then anywhere else. I've had chckens for just under a year, so I would say I'm still a newbie...

I have only had chickens for two years and I have learned so much on backyard chickens. Where in Washington are you from?

My oldest struggles in stores - if we have to go to Costco or someplace similar, the DS will come with him. People will look at us oddly because I will have an 11-year-old in the cart with a DS - but I know how bad the stares could be if he wasn't. For some reason, the lights or noises in that particular store can set him off.
He was a very well behaved, utterly polite angel when you, FWJ and I met at Reber Ranch. I thought he was incredibly patient and a great kid.

I'm debating... do I write a short e-mail to my oldest son's teacher or just let it go. Thoughts?

Yesterday, when my son was explaining his science project to the teacher, the teacher asked him a question about it. Instead of answering the question that was asked of him, he blurted out "We're illegal. We have too many chickens." The teachers responded "That's not good". DH said he didn't have time to explain the situation. I tell ya - my son has been obsessing over us having too many chickens since the day the chicks hatched. We've explained to him over and over that when they are out from underneath the heat lamp, the boys will be going away and we won't be over the limit. We told him the city, or the neighbors, are not going to care about chicks and if we had to explain it to anyone, they would completely understand the situation.

So - would you bother the teacher with an explanation, or just let it go?

I don't think it's any bother to let the teacher know.

Of course it was cause it was hosted by CR and CO-hosted by mikey. get ya some that pie if ya ever come to visit.
I hope they have banana cream pie!

Glad you all had a chance to meet up. Even if I weren't working seven days a week right now, we're down to one car. DH was in an accident Thursday night and totaled his. Sigh.

tired. whew. Getting the chicken run ready for a hard cover (yeah!) Went to HD and got the lumber and stuff. Prices have gone up.
Stopped by Del's in Centraila and picked up 2 bags of wood shavings and a large bag of sweet cdz. (did I say that right?) too tired to go look at the receipt.
Got the run treated and the rosebud spread, no stink! yeah!
If the weather holds for tomorrow I will try to finish, but I don't know, and if the weather sours, I guess I'll watch the SB.
I figure my eggs are costing me about $2.00 ea. LOL (of course I'm counting the cost of building the coop and all else I have spent on my girls)
nap time!!!

So much for nap time. Dang it. Remembered I had a chuck roast to put on and a couple of dishes, etc to catch up on. No, not ketchup, catch up. ;-)
Then I saw that my lima beans were through soaking from late, late last night so I got them ready for some soup with smoked ham hocks.

Looking at all those pictures from TurtleTrav made me decide to look through mine, from when DH and I went to Maui in 2011 to get married. That is when we decided that is the place we are going to retire to. It took me a while to look through them as I have an addiction with taking pics and I took over 3,000 pictures while we were there for 5 days. Not counting the wedding pictures. Man, what I wouldn't do to go back there now.
