Wilco Farm Stores will have chicks beginning Feb 15th. The closest one to you is in Kelso I think. And they carry EE's. If you need to break her do you know how?

i've been removing her from the nest up to 6 times a day, one of those times blocking her from getting into the nest for a half hour to an hour. This has been going on for 2 weeks. She keeps going right back to the nest.

Actually, there is a beautiful new Wilco in Gig Harbor, just a few minutes off the Narrows Bridge! So much fun to go there and look around.

Well, next week I will be going out to Monroe to take two of my roosters to the feed store. I have four boys ( now that I know for sure the questionable hen/rooster is indeed a Rooster) Big Daddy Red (RIR) is my main Roo, Seth (Hatchery EE) is his side kick and best bud and then there is my boy hatched out of Tamara's eggs earlyer this summer. Both Red and Seth hate this roo, he is a Blue Cuckoo Olive egger. Very pretty boy, but I am thinking he may also be rough on the girls (not sure though). My main two boys chase him every where if he gets to close to them or their girls.
One I know for sure is going and he is just a funny looking mutt that is not very gentle with the girls.
But as far as the other three I can't decide. Red is Great but, he has curled toes. So far he has not passed this onto any of his babies, but I also don't really want that chance also it is a bit off putting when people come to buy chicks and see his toes.
Seth is just a hatchery boy, but was hatched at home (eggs ordered from hatchery) by a family and they said all the eggs they had were bright blue. I would like to keep him cause he is pretty and I want to be able to use his blue egg trait.
Then there is the Blue Cuckoo boy, again very pretty. Also I think once I am down to only two boys (for now) those two will get along better. Now he has the olive egg traits that I also want, but I can also make that on my own.
I just don't know what to do, so I am thinking about posting their pics and getting opinions from ya'll.

Oh, but in other eggciting news, my three pullets (also from Tamara's eggs) one Ameraucana, one Olive egger and one ? that lays DARK brown eggs HAVE NOW ALL BEGUN TO LAY!!!!!!!!

DH thinks that I am crazy for taking pictures of eggs

OK well that did not go well after all. Lucy started pecking the chick. I was afraid she'd hurt the poor thing's eye or something...it was not a loving kind of peck. I brought the chick back in the house to get warm. We'll try again in the morning. Gonna have to have DH take care of the kids for a couple hours so I can get up before sunrise and put the chicks out there and then watch them for a LONG time before I leave the happy family. At least...they better be happy.

Question for those who've slipped chicks under a broody: When I put them under her, do I remove the wooden eggs? For the short while the chick was under Lucy it seemed smashed and uncomfortable on top of those hard eggs!

If you can get a wire cage and put it on blocks so air flows under it, put her in with no nesting materials, just food and water. Leave her in there for 3 days. Let her out and see if she is still broody, if she is repeat another 3 days.
Wont she get cold this time of year being on wire like that? I want her to not be broody but i don't want to make her sick or suffer. Most hens i've had after a couple times of removing them from the nest they quit being broody. This one is dedicated. Which I don't want :( I can't have a rooster so broody chickens are useless to me.

Cooling her body temp down by having the cool air come up under her from the wire cage and not having a dark or comfortable place to lay down is what will break her from being broody. She will be ok.
