Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Oooooohhhhhhhhhh, C'mon Aleve do YOUR thing, please hurry.
Dang it. I am not 30 yo, I am not 30 yo, I am not 30 yo.
Spent the day in the back yard redoing the chicken run. Tomorrow should see a roofed over run. Yay!!

justrob97 (Robert Jenkins) came down to the house today with his lovely daughter. He graciously transported the Black ENGLISH ORPINGTON I've been wanting. A great looking bird. Just a juvenile yet but I'm betting that he grows into a fine Roo to match with my E. Orpingtons.
He absolutely glimmers with green in the bright light.

CR, you may be right. I just may get the show bug bite.

Holy Moley Batman, we're over 1000 pages already on this new thead. WOW

A note: I watched a movie; The Sunset Limited. This movie is set in the ghetto of NY, but it never moves out of the kitchen and there are just two characters played by Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel Jackson.
If you get a chance to watch it, do so, but make sure you have the time with out interruption. It is a dialog between the two men. It is not a show for children, there are no bad words (just one) and no sexuality what so ever, but a child would not understand the back and forth dialog.

So I'm really nervous about giving Lucy those chicks now. I forgot how tiny and fragile they are! She was really ticked off when the chick came out from under her enough to be visible and was all puffed up and started pecking the chick; not pushing it back under her, but pecking it :( I know it's not the end of the world if she doesn't take them, I can make do easily enough brooding them myself, but still...it sucks that's what I bought them for.

OK I'm happy to have made some decisions with DH just now. He was going to have to pick up the 4 chicks (2 barred rocks, 1 BA, 1 EE) from Seattle Farm Supply on Wed. after a long day of working in Bellevue, and said he'd rather eat the cost I already paid for those 4 chicks just to not have to go that night. I found others I wanted at Baxter Barn so I'm headed there after lunch with DS2! Hooray! Lucy will have chicks tonight or in the morning

SO....I'm offering 4 chicks that have been paid for by me already ($21.50, breeds listed above) to anyone near Northgate or north Seattle (exit 175 off I-5) for $10. I'd just love to get a little bit of my money back for the 4 healthy pullet day-olds for $2.50 each. They will be vaccinated with Marek's. Does anyone want them? You'd have to pick them up any time next weekend.
I can pick them up and deliver them to someone, I'm right by there and know where it is. But I can't keep them.

Question for those who've slipped chicks under a broody: When I put them under her, do I remove the wooden eggs? For the short while the chick was under Lucy it seemed smashed and uncomfortable on top of those hard eggs!
Yes remove the eggs. I had a broody sitting on 8 eggs. None hatched. I put 4 chicks under her and removed the eggs . It worked perfectly

if you put the chick under with the eggs then the chicken knows it didn't hatch it. I do the switch at night or early morning when it's still kinda dark. Take out all the eggs and put chicks under. Then the eggs are gone and the hen usually situates herself on top the chicks with no issues.

And you put them there at night and just left them? How were they in the morning? I'm totally freaking out that Lucy is going to kill them if left unsupervised. I also have to figure out a tiny temporary feeder and waterer for the nest box before Lucy shows them where the food and water are outside the box, on the coop floor. Oi! This is work.

Quote: Well I would love to take them! Is Mill Creek to far for you? If it is don't worry about it.
Really nice of you to offer to deliver them to someone!
LOL. I should have used a different word than 'deliver'. I meant I could meet somewhere. I am in North Seattle, close to Shoreline/Lake Forest Park.
