Ugh! I'm sick of FB people being so uninformed. You can't argue with a list of ingredients right in front of your face, showing LESS chemicals in packaged food in Europe vs. here. Read this article, seriously, worth your time.

I had someone comment that people can always just choose healthier foods if they want. Erm...not really. Here was my response:

Not really Natalie, that's what most people don't understand. Even the "fresh" produce one buys at the grocery store is poisoned with chemicals. Our grocery store commercial meat is killed in disgusting, unclean ways and then "washed" in bleach and chemicals; not to mention the antibiotics that are making many people sick. Our eggs are "cleaned" in bleach instead of relying on the way God designed a chicken to deposit a protective coating on their eggs and leaving them unwashed. Our corn is 95% genetically modified (in the US) and that is why so many people are reacting allergically to corn these days and getting sick from something as simple as corn on the cob.

BOO, I hate people!

Not really, but sometimes a girl's gotta rant, right?

If you've added the card to the account already and you PP balance is $0, you just need to make the pp payment through ebay and the card will be billed at tat point. You don't ave to add money to the account before paying.

If you don't have the cc on the account already, you have to do that first. I think there is a "my account" tab or something at the top of the screen.

I may not agree 100% with you, but it's all good. And yes, sometimes one has to rant and if you can't rant amongst us where could you?

I feel badly because Mr. Hallerlake bought me a fabulous early Valentine's Day present. I've been sick and haven't gotten him anything except a card.

I completely understand. I stopped visiting most of the pages I like because people just "know everything" and nothing you can tell them will change that. I have read over and again that other counties (Mexico esp) have a much higher standard of regulations on what they allow in their foods. Good for you for sharing with Miss Natalie, hopefully it sinks in..

Stunning

Someone asked what "coddling eggs" was:

It's basically slightly soft boiling them, to in essence kill any bacteria that may be living on the shell. Most likely if an egg has been in contact with salmonella the bacteria is on or just under the shell. Coddling them reduces the risk from "very slight" to a "little more very slight" It doesn't help if the salmonella is throughout the egg. (Very rare)

Techniques can vary a bit, but usually revolve around dipping the egg into hot water for 1 min.

Not to be confused with coddling them for eating- which is more of a soft boiling 1/2/3 minute egg.

Manipulating genetics has been going on for 12,000 years. All domesticated crops and animals have some kind of genetic meddling done by man. Maize was just like a grass once just with a larger kernel than you see on crabgrass. By the time colonists made it to the shores of North America, it was very different looking than what was started with and is a lot more now. GMO can mean any kind of gene manipulation including taking a tassel from a popcorn cane and pollinating some silver queen stalks. Taking drought resistant traits and putting them into a high production crops generally would not produce reaction in a human, poorly cleaned corn that still has herbicide and pesticide on it such as taking corn in the husk and throwing them into a pot to cook without shucking them can cause serious reactions and only highlights poor legislation and stupid consumers. Animal treatment also comes under this last statement.
Do you marvel at the yellow and purple potatoes, or the yellow watermelons? How about the many colors of tomatoes. That is all, technically, GMO. Some done with gene insertions in a dish or DNA replicator. How about all the colors of flowers, all done with cross and selective breeding and doing what nature would normally not do.
All the allergies that people are coming up with in the last 40-50 years you can thank additives, food coloring, and chemicals both in the fields and in the air you breath & water you drink in the suburbs.
