Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Well I might as well tell y'all; we might be moving to Maryland this year. Like...there's a distinct possibility (that wasn't there 3 weeks ago) that we could be relocated to MD by summer time. I'm freaking out just a bit at the thought of what to do with my chickens. They were my first thought. Kids? Meh, they'll adjust and we home school so we can do it anywhere. Hubby? He'll be in job heaven. House? We'll buy a ranch or farm probably. My current chickens?  :hit I doubt we'd be able to bring them with.

I am sure if you can't take them with, there will be plenty of us here ready to give them good homes..... Fingers crossed you don't have to move..... :)

This is a true story, just ask CR !!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a horrible winter...T-Hi was socked in with ice, Anna was socked in with snow and ice storm on top of it...no one could get to anyone to help out......and no one had power.
All my pen netting got ice, then snow, then ice, so heavy and it all caved in, all pens closed off covered in ice & snow...some fencing caved in cuz the pen netting was attched to the fencing, actually bent T posts over !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CR had the same thing: pen nets caved & T posts bent over !
Swartzzeneger could not bend a T post like that !
It was awful !!!!!!!!!!!

Our place was a sheet of ice and no power for over a week. It was bad..

Quote: While I am NOT disagreeing with you CL. I have been at the local poultry auction and they auction eggs. Some they say "these are hatching eggs" and then they sell others and say nothing. None of the cartons are labled and There is a dept of ag person there and says nothing. I have even seen people buying them to resell.
I also believe that the law is different for on site vs off site sales.

Quote: Yes it is. Anna text me at 2:45am. Normally I wouldn't hear a text while sleeping, For some reason that day I did. Anna was in panic she had lost power and was about to start tossing eggs. I told her NO don't you dare. You give them babies a chance. I told her to stuff her ..... lets just say shirt and pockets. She did and 36 hours after losing power she had POCKET CHICKENS hatching. After the fact Anna admitted she knew what to do but was panicked and needed somebody to take charge for her.

Has anyone relocated birds across states or country successfully? I'm wondering if it's even feasable or if I should start removing my emotions from the equation and get ready to sell my flock? I'm afraid if we move somewhere with the birds that when we get there they will all die from a new strain of Cocci. Is this unfounded?

WOW
CR now
that you say that they do. Not supposed to but maybe there is something in the law or they look the other way.

Q: does anyone have a silky or broody hen they want to part with or loan out? I might need a chick-sitter soon.

I'm going to try to convince DH to hook up a live webcam for the hatch-a-thon this weekend. Of course, my homemade incubator might be horrible and maybe we get nothing, or maybe all 16 hatch, or? Life's a gamble, right?

I managed to clean one of the chicken coops today between hail and rain storms. Hopefully this weekend we will be able to move the tools around between the old tool shed and the new tool shed, and make a permanent chicken house. the girls have done their job scratchign out my garden spot, and now they need to vacate it so I can get stuff in the gorund. I'm late with the cool-weather crops already! Eeek!

Today we also got our 30 gallon fish tank "brooder" ready to go with the red heat lamp- checking temperature this evening. Heading out to the store to look for marbles or glass craft blobs to put in the waterer. The mind is willing, but my body is exhausted

I made a one-dish layered dinner that's one of our favorites- will try to post a recipe later.

BTW- how much are you all paying for your Chicken Saddles/aprons? Is anyone making their own?

*sigh* A friend of mine (in ohio) had a dog show up at her church, a stray that is pregnant. She asked me if I could help her out with money for it's food becuase the shelter said they would have it put to sleep right away so it couldn't give birth. Anyone have ideas of how to raise money to buy her some kibble online and have it shipped to her? I only need to raise $18 to get her a bag of ol roy. I mean it's a foster, and something to eat is better then nothing.
Any ideas at all?
