Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I can't wait til tomorrow evening. To get my 5 chicks. So so excited.
Then I go into lockdown saturday for 6 eggs from my moms, and get to candle saturday/sunday on the ones that were mailed to me. Although some of those are so dark i can't see in them.
Hoping to get a TON of chicks. I love chicks. Plus one of my hens is showing signs that she's at the end of her life. Curly has not laid eggs in a while. She laid til last month when a cat attacked her. Then she totally quit. I had to install a ramp recently for her to get up onto the roosts. I think after this summer i'll butcher her, I don't want to put her threw another winter with her showing signs of arthritis.

*sigh* A friend of mine (in ohio) had a dog show up at her church, a stray that is pregnant. She asked me if I could help her out with money for it's food becuase the shelter said they would have it put to sleep right away so it couldn't give birth. Anyone have ideas of how to raise money to buy her some kibble online and have it shipped to her? I only need to raise $18 to get her a bag of ol roy. I mean it's a foster, and something to eat is better then nothing.
Any ideas at all?

How about a special offering at that church for the dog that came to church for salvation and sanctuary.

Oh what a beauty ! This is the type of kittas I am looking for !!!!!!!!!!!

Why Thanks. Her name is Miracle because it was a miracle she lived.

well i candled some of the eggs. several of them have easily visible veins started. I'm excited. even one of the green eggs have veins. Those are the ones due to hatch in a little over 2 weeks.
The ones that go on lockdown saturday don't look so great. :( Not sure if any of those will hatch. I've hatched from my moms eggs before with success. The only difference now is the rooster. Thinking getting her a new rooster may help.

Fingers crossed they will be fine.

We're still waiting for a 3rd little chick to hatch. We set 10, but most never even developed. We can tell from candling, there's going to still be a yolk in there, and not much else. 2 hatched and are doing great. The 3rd looked like it would hatch - but nothing yet. Day 25 is tomorrow.

I have a feeling the kids and I will be holding a funeral. Hopefully we'll come up with a cool idea that won't cost us a fortune. My oldest son's dead feeder gold fish was buried in a beautiful origami box beneath a $100.00 Magnolia tree. I really hope he's not expecting us to duplicate that funeral! Funny thing is - it was buried 3 years ago and my son still believes the paper box and fish will still be there if we ever dug it up. Sigh.

What about a similar funeral but a small cardboard box, and plant a blueberry bush on top of it?
