Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I have not seen any large fowl chocolate orpingtons - just the bantam. I was looking at some bantam 100% English chocolate orpington hatching eggs the other day and realized that by having limited space I was saving myself a ton of money! Those babies are 'spensive... but very pretty!
As I recall, I think........Kathyinmo got some in a raffle at a chicken show last year...so she may have eggs for sale this spring...PM her & see.

Hey- FYI- I was supposed to have carpal tunnel surgery years ago- had severe wrist and hand pain, sometimes felt all the way to elbows. A highly respected "alternative medicine" MD told me- nonsense- before you do that, go research vitamin B6. I went away, rolling my eyes, but not wanting to have surgery. Sure enough, googled B6 + carpal tunnel. I took 200 mg's B6 with some digestive enzymes for a couple months and cured my "severe" Carpal Tunnel.

Check it out- from Mayo clinic, who now reccommends the same thing!:

WOW that is so cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Little things can make me happy. Since our big back yard "remodel" last year, I realized I had probably done a disservice to the girls. But with chickens and a Golden Retriever at the time, our yard had turned to so much mud that I had a large brick patio installed with gravel paths all around. Of course, now there's very little area other than a few raised dirt beds for much to grow and you know how quickly any green gets eaten.

So I've decided to keep a steady supply of different seeds sprouted year round. I'm pretty excited about the selection I got and although I'd been saving jars I really like the stacked growing containers I found on Amazon while I was seed shopping.

I also plan to grow out 4- 6 different flats of grass and switch them out this summer for chicken salad bar. I have a nice mix of Omega 3 grass mix that the ladies were loving last year.

I have a 5 lb. can of mung bean sprouts and an assorted box of 12 different seeds for sprouting. DH and I plan to use some of these ourselves in sandwiches, soups, stir fry, etc., and the rest go to the flock.

Here's what I grew first! Fresh Alfalfa sprouts in our stacked containers -

And here's the box of assorted sprouting seeds - a smorgasboard!

I have a new addiction.
I confess.
I have dabbled for years with Bonsai without getting serious or reading up on much.
But
This year, I have so many big leaf maples, red laced maples and assorted other trees in small pots (a few hazel nuts & juniper) I am going to give it a serious try....like in my spare time !

Usually I "do" the trees, plant them nicely and then ignore them until they grow big again.
I have to train myself to keep after them I guess.
Anyone else here "do" Bonsai ??????????????

I still don't have a generator for the well, only for the fridge and freezer. We need to fix that. I was melting ice on the wood stove and pouring it in one of the camp showers I had hanging in the tub. So other than going primitive in a few areas, we were fine. I learned that the wood stove is way to big for our house. Had to open windows to cook. Had it up to 98 inside even with them open. Stew was an easier meal since it cooks well at a lower temp than foods that need fried. Not sure where we put it now, but I had a nice little solar charger that worked fine for my phone unless I was using it a lot.

The inch of ice all around everything broke so much. It destroyed my chicken run with the weight even after it took down the netting and I pulled that off.

Those chicks being hatched in pockets was such a cute bright spot in the storm.

My mom wants 20-30 pullets, Her neighbor is asking for 5 pullets and a rooster. Whatever roosters are left over I have a pen with coop at my moms house that is my "meat coop" I put roosters in to grow to a good size and then butcher them. I figure her neighbor can choose from the roosters which he wants and my mom wants to replace her rooster. Hoping to get a EE rooster for my moms chickens. Cause she has hens that lay big white eggs and some that do light brown eggs. I think that would create green egg layers and olive eggers wouldn't it? If i breed them together and hatch eggs.
I really enjoy chicks. And the limit on poultry doesn't count immature birds. I love letting chicks run around the back yard and garden and eat all the bugs. I use to have an ant problem. Now it's mostly under control.

You won't necessarily get colored eggs at all from an ee rooster. I thought the same thing. I made a thread asking about it that was very informative- https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/741935/who-carries-the-ee-gene#post_10408834

zgoatlady- you have some awesome chicken breeds! (I read your siggy)
They are pretty rare. Do your eggs run pretty high in price?

Does anyone know if The Bradley Farm in Tacoma ships eggs?

hatching eggs, as such, do not present a problem to the commercial grocers and the eating eggs they sell, nor the commercial egg producers that supply the grocers. This is why ag dept doesn't mind even though the law doesn't specify what kind, it's pretty much implied that they are talking about eating eggs and how talking them off farm infringes on the commercial producers income. And, I am sure the auctioneers would be quick to note that any eggs at auction should be thought of as livestock.

On his first trip to New York City, Yoda thought the Statue of Liberty was quite something....

But he wasn't quite sure what to think of Ellis Island, being an alien and all.....

He thought the ice rink at Rockefeller Center was very pretty, but way too cold....

Much warmer it is, having the Times Square New Year's Eve ball indoors this time of year! .....

Tuesday was my birthday & I was given an incubator! Next week I will be filling it up with Standard Cochins & bantam Mille Fleur Cochins! And possibly Chocolate orpingtons! I'm so excited!!
