Ok my new friends- I have my first story for you and it's a good one!

My husband just went to the feed store and was looking at little giant still air incubators to use as a hatcher because we have a staggered hatch. Well they were still a little spendy for just a hatcher. Next thing he knows a man walks up to him, taps him on the shoulder, hands him something, walks off...
It was a $25 gift certificate to the feed store! So I've got my hatcher, and it was only $35 out of pocket!
I think it's time for a happy dance!

the best place to start your Bonsai is in the ground - not a pot.

They have been, and then I had to give some away, remember ?
The best ones I have now are wild, and dug up, then go in training pots after much root & top pruning.......

That is actually kinda cool. Probably a little less stressful for the chicks as well.

I'd skip the big leaf maple. Bonsai people usually start with things that have fairly small leaves to begin with.

I have:
5 red laced leaf maples
4 big leaf native maples
5 curly willows
3 Filberts
2 (so far) holly
6 (so far) native vine maple

that is so far, all are several years old.....and trunks are worthy of a leader snip at this point.

Woot! A silkie went broody tonight. I have a couple eggs from today saved, and then I'll collect tomorrows blue eggs for her. Hopefully I'll get another chick at least.

I hope wilco will still be doing the free chicks with a bag of feed next week. I'm thinking of going and getting a bag of the non medicated flock grower. Might as well get free chicks if i can. But i have to wait for my card to come in the mail to get discounts. signed up for their discount club. I'm not that far from there. I live in North tacoma. Gig harbor is really close.

Anyone shop there regularly? Are the workers there nice/friendly?

I live in Port Orchard shop there all the time for my chicken stuff. They are super nice and helpful.

Sometime when you're going up I-5, you should stop at the Pacific Rim Bonsai collection. It shares a courtyard with the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden on the Weyerhauser campus.

I am so far drooling over the one in Corvalis...........wish I could go, probably a good thing that I cannot go though..........
