Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I've been getting the impression that those who don't need to eat a restrictive diet are feeling a bit down and out about their ability to cater to those of us who DO need to eat a bit restrictively or special. I want those of you who cook "normal" to know that nobody expects you to cater to us if you bring food to the WFF show on the 16th. We KNOW that the way we eat is restrictive and hard and we don't expect anyone to cater to us at all. So please, ANYONE and EVERYONE who plans to come, please bring something you love and would like to share with everyone, regardless of ingredients or if you think it will cater to the masses. We know we're hard to feed and most of us who eat this way understand that *most* people do not, therefore we don't expect people to change their cooking to suit us.

HOWEVER, it would be nice if those who cook "normal" would label foods such as those containing nuts, which are a major allergen. Perhaps we could each just make a small hand written label with what we made and brought written on it so everyone can make good food choices at the potluck? I would hate someone to end up in the hospital because something had nuts (etc...) disguised in it. Just a thought. Not trying to make things harder on anyone and we're all DYING to meet each and every one of you!
Well I can tell ya that the only thing that I can make that is to die for (IMO) is a chocolate cherry RUM cake. The only problem with that is to eat it you must be in a place where you will not be driving from in a while!

I know that the rum I put in the batter is not a problem because it gets baked, but the frosting that I make and the drizzle that I put on will have you seeing doubles, But dang is it gooooooood. I am

just thinking about it. I made one for a Christmas party a few years back and that is when we realized the power that it had.

Now I know it does not look perfect, but it was the first "real" cake I had ever made. As apposed to mix out of the box and frosting from a can, this one was all done from scratch! I made a Dale Earnhardt one for one of our DS's B-days later that year.
Quote: I am with ya on that one. Plus, if I did bring something, everyone would know that I can't cook and not just think that I am blowing smoke out my rear.
Met up with Just Bugged and her DH and look what I brought home!!!!!
I hope hope hope at least one of them will be a pullet!
Thank you, JB!

Oh man, those are just to cute for words. I have been looking for some of those little cuties. Maybe after we move I can find some.

Hovabators and Little Giant styrofoam incubators can be picked up at most farm/feed stores. But for deals, look to ebay and craigslist. Do the comparison pricing on ebay..before you buy though, put an ad on craigslist that your looking for one (just call it an incubator, do not specify names because there are many out there) and see what kind of response you get. remember, a great price isn't always so great once you ad in shipping costs. Also, if your interested, looking for combination deals often saves on shipping and you get the automatic turner with an incubator.
Expect about $15 for shipping +/- a couple dollars, and if shipping is free, the price is usually higher to add it in.

I'm done with CL, And with rescues. THe rescue said i CANNOT adopt from them to inslave their puppy. Inslave Really? First off not even a word is it? And i'm guessing they mean i'm making a slave of a dog that would enjoy working.
My brother called me to ask how i felt about German shepherd mixs. He's calling his friend tonight that has a ***** that gave birth 3 weeks ago. he's going to see if he can reserve one for me.

When we were looking for a bigger dog a few years ago, I tried contacting a rescue, can't remember which one it is now. They told me they wouldn't give me a dog because my chickens aren't neutered. Morons.

We got Athena from the Nickel in my Mom's home town. The parents were 4 and 5 with no health issues, but weren't registered with anyone. I'm pretty happy with Athena. Zeus came from the Humane Society of Eastern Oregon. They have a hard time getting dogs adopted out with the area. So he was a life we saved. He was 4 months old when we got him and was food aggressive and fearful. He's got a few quirks that he freaks out about (dog houses), but he's very obedient now and there isn't a mean bone in him. No more food aggression and not fearful. I wish we'd have picked up one of his siblings as well.

Oh, I hope that you find your next family member soon

Oh, shoot. Just read it's in Olympia. I wish I could go so bad!!! Reservoir Dogs is one of my all time fav movies, so I really want to see the play! I know we'll be too busy in the next few months to even see straight, what's the term SadieSue? Break a Leg!
Quote: Yes that is the one I have - and it is bishing (b i t c h i n g) !!!

I should have used the term "circulated" instead of "forced" - you want one with a fan :)

I think it's easy enough to add water. I move the lid a little and pour it in.

I will say -- I am not nearly as strict about humidity and temperture as folks I read about. A hen, leaves her eggs almost every day, for 10 to 30 minutes. During that time, eggs cool off and their humidity changes, but eggs still hatch. Nobody tells the hen on day 18 that it is time for "lock down" and she is no longer allowed to move off the eggs.

I get a 90% hatch rate from my eggs.
VF, you are too funny!

I was reading your post to ChickenRustler, guess I didn't quote it. I love this advise!

Here I am on a crash diet and all anybody wants to do today is feed me brownies and pound cake!!! GRRR, Go away!!

I thought the Brinsea was cheaper?
Where are you getting your Hovabator and how much ?
I found the Hovabator at Incubator warehouse for 199. That includes the egg turner, shipping and a one year hassle free guarantee. The brinsea mini advanced is 169 with shipping so it is cheaper but it only holds 7 eggs compared to the 41 of the hovabator. If I got the larger Brinsea that holds 40 eggs its 500+.

Does anybody know of a B&B an hour or so out of Tacoma that has great ambiance and horseback riding?

We are tossing up a honeymoon downtown Seattle, with an Argosy Cruise dinner, or a serene B&B.......

I really didn't think I was going to care that much, really didn't, but now that the day is official, ('Rents rented the club house for the wedding, so no backing out now!) I have butterflies all over again! I feel like a dang little girl playing fairy princess. I don't know if I like it!!

Feel free to smack me if all this gets annoying!!

I need to place an order for egg cartons. I'm looking at the view-able 1 dozen, pulp cartons. I can either order 250 for 76 bucks (30 cents ea), or 2,200 for 520 (23 cents). If there is enough interest, I was thinking that there is probably time to have an order for 2,200 shipped to me and I bring some to Monroe.

Two thousand two hundred egg cartons - is a LOT -- who wants a few hundred?

Dave
Well if no one else speeks up for some, I can always use more. I have a hand full of customers that buy dozens at a time and half the time forget to save the cartons for me. Let me know how much you will need from me.
Quote: I have thought about doing that..... Would be a great thing for the kids to try.

One of the projects on my "wish I had time list" is a cabinet 'bator. I want it to have multiple, slide out drawers so that I can pull open a drawer, candle that set of eggs, and then push the drawer back in. If I design it correctly, when the drawer is open, it still creates a seal so the 'bator does not cool down too rapidly.
