Is a Macaw more functional than a Burban?

I wish I had a farm! I can't even begin to help you pick a color, lol... I go with the most color in the coop. My mother taught me that on my dinner plate, it's affected me. haha!

My neighbor has a parrot of some sort, perhaps he will login here and share more, but it's so funny! I can hear it squaking from my porch, which is usually followed by his DW coming out to tell me how annoying "Minny" can be when she's trying to nap.

Hahaha!! I didn't notice how that looked until I just re-read it.

We have 17 acres, but got it as is, so there is a ton of work to be done before we can really use it to it's potential. One small step at a time. Trying to get it up and running makes me wish I was just a little richer.

They can be quite noisy and Nikita knows how to unlatch his cage, so will let himself out if I forget to bungee it. Came home from errand running one day and he was sitting on my vacuum handle watching TV and had chewed all the buttons off the remote. They basically are feathered toddlers or sometimes teenagers, as mine will back-talk.

Quote: So thats about three feet? My new coop will be 4'W x 10'L x 4' or 5'H, and 3' off the ground. I want to give them enough head room too.

My mom tells everyone I'm a farmer at heart. If you need any help, I would gladly do what I can. I am dreaming of having a farm that is 10-20 acres, maybe more if the right situation presented itself, but lets face it, I grew up in the city and have only visited farms. I need real world experience in order to get my dream up and running! Speaking of, I volunteered my time at a farm in Bainbridge Island, but haven't heard back. Hmm...

Haha! I love animals! I went into the wrong profession. I should've been a vet!

Time to pack the truck for the drive to Monroe.

I think we are staying at the Best Western tonight.  If there are others that will arrive this evening we should gather some place for a beverage of your choice.

To spot me .. I'm about 6' 5", full head of shock-white hair.  ~24 yrs old.

Ah, you were the person who put shavings in my purple carrier at the winter show, then?

Sorry I was so distracted; I was worried about my husband being healthy enough to actually drive us home.

Nope .. I've not yet had the pleasure of making your acquaintance :)

Oh, well, I guess it's not opposite day after all.

Coop question:  I am building coop #2 with a run this weekend at some point (between cleaning, gardening, and bunny cage building).  How high do you place your roosts for LF?  I have a short roost in their current coop, which they haven't used since they gained access to their nesting boxes.

I see some coops with really high roosts and some with lower roosts, which is best?

Mine seem happiest at 3-4 feet, although 2 is accepted if the roof is low..

OK Chickielady This is where ya should be singin the praises of how much ya loves Da Fat Kid. Oh and make sure ya save a seat in the van for "pigglett".

Speaking of I do have one smaller pink piggy planter left. flaming chicken has asked to buy the big one. So this is last call for the little one. Tomorrow I will be loading the car and then it will be too late.

This is a good chance for any of the northern peeps to get one of these little piggies. PM me if interested in this last one.
I can only afford the little propane tank my Mom gave ya (that Julie dropped off) We is broke right now...............

Dang chick that had pipped wrong end hit vein while zipping this afternoon . I couldn't ge it to stop bleeding. Flicked off the shell and used the back end of a needle to get thread under the vein and tie it off. Then I carefully hatched it. It spent a hour and half on my chest under a heating pad since I don't have an incubator. That little thing is full of pep and vinegar. It's standing and squirming finally got me to take it back out to the silkie. It happily crawled under her and she tucked it in next to the other. I think it will be just fine.

So it looks like I have one wheaten and one I don't know. I was sure the egg was from an ameraucana. It was blue and not from the one EE I have that lays blue eggs. What would a silver/wheaten cross chick look like?

So with new hatched chicks under a broody at this time, if I find any chicks I want on Sat, I can get them.
RIGHT ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it safe to say that on day 6 of incubating that if an egg has a rolling air sac that it is not going to develop and I should throw it away??

And I wanted to share a picture of my little Black Frizzle Cochin!

That depends...keep it large end up and on lock down place it large end up (like in an egg carton) and do not lay it on it's side as that can confuse the chick when it tries to pip...and just sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but don't give up.
Candle again at day 10 and day 17 when you lock down.

Mom had to tie down the doors on her parrotlet cage. The one boy would open them and get out.

Her amazon will lift the little doors where you slide the food and water bowls in and get out.

ALL of the remotes in Mom's house are kept buttons down. The little boys did a number on them when she first got them.

The amazon is a bad girl! She is nice to the little kids in the family, but she doesn't like any adult other than Mom. She'll come up near you and " *kiss* Love You" then tries to take a chunk out of you. She stalks me. Oh but she's so sweet and sucks up if I have something she wants a bite of.

The parrotlets were the best talkers. Hawk who died last year would talk up a storm in his tiny little voice. You'd tell him "you're so sweet" and he'd look at you and say "cute", and vice versa. I liked to be holding him and have him facing away and tell him "You're so tasty" and he'd spin around so fast and say "get you" and try and bite me. He was very careful and loved to play games. He liked to play chase across the table. You run your fingers after him saying "get you" then when he got to the other side of the table, he'd turn around and rub his beak on the ground, half spread his wings and say "get you, get you" and chase you to the other side. Rinse repeat. He was such a darling little boy. Think Mom had him 11 years. He liked to go hang upside down off the bottom of the door by one foot to get you to come rescue him. He'd got caught once and liked the attention so he kept doing it no matter what Mom tried to do to stop it. He fell at just the wrong angle the last time.
