Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Can anyone tell me how to raise the humidity in the incubator? I have been running for a few hrs now and my temp is right at 100 but humidity is only at 39%. I know its suppose to be between 45-55%. Is it because the water was too cool?
I incubate for 16 days at 45-47%, and lockdown at 55%.
Works for me.

The punchline to the school lockdown story SadieSue and I mentioned : It was a guy carrying an umbrella.

The boss said "unofficially" that I may not have to work Saturday!!!! Which means MONROE HERE WE COME!!! I'm so hopeful!

I understand that! Happy birthday to your DS!

Chickielady that's awesome! I'm glad that worked. Good to know!

HoneysuckleHills - I'll take some of your primrose! I'm not sure if I could fit the sunflower in my car.

Very good to know! I am going to build my coop on the north side of my garage, so the south side will be wall. And the east side will be fence. The clear tarp idea sounds great for the winter, and I hope to have the same roofing material, with part of it a living roof. I'm so excited to build this! Silly question but, where do you buy the sand?

Dawng- How do I find your etsy shop? I love lavender. Have you ever made lavender/honey? Just sounds heavenly...

Does anyone have any blue egg laying Ameracaunas (fertile eggs, chicks, pullets, hens)?
pips&peeps will be there, she has AWESOME Ameraucanas, PM her & see if she will bring you eggs &/or chicks.

CHICK QUESTION:

My 4 chicks are 18 days old now and they are eating sand so have grit in their little gizzards. What kind of treats (other than meal worms) would you suggest giving them? The reason I ask is that I want to teach them to come to me for treats. Right now they aren't all that crazy about people reaching in and petting them. I had gotten the impression that with regular handling they would be likely to hop onto my palm maybe. We hold them on our lap a couple of times a day -- the either fall asleep or try to climb onto my shoulder! And pet them in their kennel a few times a day too, but they would rather scamper! Am I expecting too much too soon? It seems to me they will only get more independent rather than more friendly, is that true? Three are Ameraucanas and one is a gold star (rir x riw)

What treats do you give to young chicks?

THANKS!
Cooked rice, millet & quinoa, and after they get used to it they will drive you nuts for it !
I usually make a big pot of it 1 X a week & dish my chicks a small plant pot bottom (plastic) with an ice cream scoop of the micture.
Keep the rest in the fridge.

Time to pack the truck for the drive to Monroe.

I think we are staying at the Best Western tonight. If there are others that will arrive this evening we should gather some place for a beverage of your choice.

To spot me .. I'm about 6' 5", full head of shock-white hair. ~24 yrs old.

So cute. My husband wants a goose so he can train it to be an attack goose lol.

Oh my, those are so cute, I wanted goslings as well, but too scared, not enough room for them to run around. Where did you buy your birds? Again love those goslings.

I had pre-conceived notions about them until i read so much on BYC from goose-lovers. Hubby still has them, haha! They are all just feed store hatchery birds. It didnt help when the clerk said to me, "ducks AND geese? You're brave!", right in front of DH! I told him if any end up too mean we can always eat 'em, haha! I do need to make a cleaning station, though,
