Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I asked this before but it got lost in the muddle of posts a couple days ago. Lucy is now squatting for me again, comb getting redder, and she's spending more time away from her babies (just not covering them near as much). For a treat she'll flat out plow them down, although she still talks to them and calls them for treats and food she finds. I know she's still taking care of them and sleeping with them under her though. She was broody for 4 weeks and has had the chicks for 5 weeks tomorrow, although the youngest one (given later) is only 4.5 weeks. How long until Lucy abandons caring for them and goes back to laying eggs? Any chance I'm going to need to get a heat lamp for the coop to make sure they stay warm enough if she stops caring for them? Thanks!
I have found that it happens kind of gradually most of the time. My broodies just slowly stop seeing to their every need. But they still sleep with them at night. That is the important time. If she is still doing that, for another few weeks, they will be fine without heat. I find that broody raised babies feather out faster. just my 2 cents.

I went (to Monroe to see all the feathers).

I saw (some great birds and some surprisingly small birds).

I met (a few of the folks, but had to leave to get to to work).

I will return (next year to hopefully stay longer and meet more people).
Sorry we didn't get to meet. Had to schedaddle
All the different foods were so good. I love trying new things.

The bantam dark cornish were adorable. I may have to get some of those. The one little rooster was so curious and friendly. And he reminded me of a parrot.

I have my new birds in quarantine, and they've been spazzing out, dust bathing in their shavings and trying to eat as much grass as they can.

Now I think I need to take a nap.
I wish we would have met. I SOOOOOOO need your potato soup recipe. That was real good
OMG Today was so much fun at the WFF show!

It was so great to so so many of you guys again and to meet so many others. I wish I could have stayed longer but DH and the older boys were getting wrestles and we had plans for the kids to do a whole bunch of fun stuff!
I completely forgot to go look at the scarfs, GGRRRRR, I wanted on so darn badly. Also the food there..... WOW is all I can say about that. The food was great! It's funny because apparently my body is not used to all this healthy food and I hate to say it, but I was worried about how everything would taste with all the "crud" not in them, but everything was amazing. Even my kids LOVED everything and that does not happen often. One of my DD's (Rylaya my "look a like") love CR's road kill so much so took it apon her self to go to him, thank him and let him know how much she enjoyed it!
When we first got to the show (after we climbed the fence to watch the drift cars on the track) I mentioned to DH that he would be happy to know that I did not bring a box... He was confused, I explained that it ment I was not bringing home any chickens. Then I regreted it, because I found a Splash Ameraucana rooster that was for sale and I mentioned that I wanted him and DH told me to buy him..... CRAP!!!!! I had no way to get him home so he stayed there. Big Boo! Then we were over looking at the Orpingtons and DH say the HUGE roosters and said he wanted one of those. Man I really should have brought boxes after all.
You and your kids cracked me up today. And I would recomend the English Orps. I have one(Splash) and he is huge and so docile. He is almost 1 and weighs 12lbs. His dad was 14lbs. They are huge gently giants.
It was good to meet and talk Silkie with ya. Learned a lot today.

Had a great time meeting new peeps and seeing old friends at the show today. I am sorry if I missed anyone.
The food was AWSOME! Great job everyone! And I want to thank you all for feeding the judges and a couple of the guys running the show too. I invited them to be nice, and to ensure that they never say no to us when we want to do this next year!

I know they loved the food and appreciated being fed.
They also said that we were a great group and think it's great that we plan things like this. Way to represent BYC and the WA thread!

My Faverolles got BV and BB today, but she was the only one there. Lol! But I had a "future" judge take a gander at my pullet and he said she is a very nice bird. So I was happy.
My little Silkie got first place as a blue hen, but no BV, RV, BB, or RB. Her color is too dark. Oh well, at least I got to show some birds and neither of them were DQ'd. It was a good day.

Hope some of you are coming to Vancouver in April.

Nighty, night! I am so tired! My bed is calling to me.
