Well, it wasn't entirely my fault. I was using it to put the hay in the trough and he came in to grab a bite off the fork and we collided. I felt horrible. He is such a love normally and when I went out to feed last night (by hand this time), he backed away from me.

I just figure that I will have to replenish my laying flock from time to time and thought it would be nice to have a separate coop for broodies and babies. OR I could have a separate coop just for having fun chickens, like all these sweet silkies and such that I keep seeing. Oh yeah, I am definitely going to get

It's a good thing he doesn't get on BYC and see all the crazy ideas I keep getting. Yikes!!

That is too funny! I can't wait to get all kinds of different ammenities for my flock! My garage is a hospital right now. Baby buns on the way! I wasn't going to move her inside, but red mites forced it, and I realized it's so much warmer in there than in the hutch, so I caved, new cage is going in today. I cave a lot to adorable farm critters and small children... I'm gonna have bunnies!!!!

That just sunk in...

LOL....breathe....breathe.....this too shall pass......oh, wait, bunnies multiply faster than chickens. Nevermind.

Thank you all for your support, good thoughts and happy wishes for getting out new house. We still have to see if the financing with hold and not fall through, and I have heard of that happening more times than I can to think of right now.
As far as having a get together/party with ya"ll at the new house, it will happen as soon as I get every thing unpacked. And thank you Jess for offering your help with unpacking, but that will actually give me something to do during the day while DH is at work and kids at school. As is now I lose my mind just sitting here at home all day long not working.
I am trying to no get over the top excited just in case the financing falls through, but I think it is already to late for that!

Hey congratties on the new coop. And as fer looosin yer mind...... that should already be done and over cause ya never had much to loose to start with !!!

I can totally relate to leaving a career to go farm - scary, but it is what I want to do.

I wish I could afford to. My pre-marriage bills need to be paid off before I can quit working. That's another 4 years or so out.

Well peeps that Shed in Fed Way. that I were gonna move. I just got word it is not worth the effort unless ya want a little lumbr.

I actually got out there this morning and he had already forgiven me. I'm sure he will remember next time I have the fork, but he did nuzzle me, so all is good for now.

'Nother newbie question: how long can you set aside eggs for and still have them be viable? In the basement? In the fridge? What is ideal?

Replying to my own post.....

I'm allergic to eggs, the girls don't eat them much, we bake with them occasionally, dh eats them daily, so sometimes I forget that chickens are good for more than fun, pest, weed and post-harvest processing, and poo.

I would like to thank all who posted well wishes and camaraderie support to me on my family issues. Love hurts sometime. We are all one big family on here and I appreciate you all. We need the start a club like the YaYa sisterhood. The BYC YAYA Chickenhood. We can do the happy chicken dance around a brooder light. So many hurt souls out there. Big hug to us all.

I am in agreement about the family here.

(Not making light of this sad topic but....) As long as we don't do the chicken dance, I'm in!
